'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

Reading thru this thread it's funny how bad this whole board wanted this kid (me included) and to be our main QB for this class...

Well our guy QD is #175 overall and the 5th ranked pro-style QB, while Gentry is the 12th ranked pro-style per 247's update today.

We got ourselves a good one boys.

So Town and Rosen are 5 better?

We did, but Gentry is still a very good QB..

Boom. I think after this season, QD is going to be ranked even higher.

I don't think anyone's denying that.. That's why we all wanted him before QD came along. Just stating that we may just have ended up with one even better.

Texas has Gentry, but they may just have a kid in their own back yard that's even better committed to the real UT.

Texas was like most of us. Stargazing too early in the process, haha.

I thought I read somewhere that Rivals review of Texas recruits was suffering overall due to them losing their best analysts for that area to 247. Is that correct?

They've really dropped the ball regarding Dormady. I called Mike Farrell out on twitter about it and he responded like a petulant 8 year old. His response was "yeah, coming from a Tennessee fan".

Well how did you think he would respond when you " called him out on twitter"?

Did you think he'd tell you that you are a great evaluator of talent and that you should have his job?:p

Dude, I didn't say "I've seen Quinten play and according to my evaluation I have no doubt he's the best QB in the country".

All I said was hey, the other scouting services, Scout, 24/7 & ESPN, have re-evaluated Dormady and have him as a 4 star, why do you guys only have him as a 2star? Also told him that nobody thinks Bama and Okla St would have offered a star and that it seems Rivals has dropped the ball.

He could've replied professionally and said they were going to reevaluate him soon, that because of his injury they were in a holding pattern with him or something ... anything with even a hint of professionalism. But he sounded like Vandy fan or something. Wasn't what I expected.

Put it this way, as a potential Rivals customer, it didn't exactly cause me to go buy a subscription.

Edit: just came across another tweet from Farrell...

@rivalsmike: according to fans about 1% @Ummagumma79: @rivalsmike I understand you do this for a living, what is your % on being right?

All five of the top five PS QB are west of the Mississippi and we still got one of them. Butch truly gets it.

Minor point, but Scout still seems to have him as a 3 star and the #29 QB.

I think Scout only tweaked their rankings recently for guys that they saw at The Opening. That said, I don't know if any of their other evaluations will change until after the season.

Honestly right now I'd still rather have Gentry over QD, but I'm looking forward to seeing how QD does this season.

They did. Brian Perroni i think. Most Rivals guys have bolted to 247.

Funny how folks that hated Rivals then, love 247 now when it's comprised of a lot of old Rivals guys. Maybe the new scenery? Or maybe 247 has more resources for these guys to do their job.

Sincere question. Why?

I thought he looked great on film. Also he is athletic enough to run the read option successfully, which is something we haven't seen from QD. The coaches really thought highly of him and many thought he was the number one target. Ainge liked him a lot too, and so did Bama. Of course it's not entirely fair to compare a sophomore and Juniors film, I just really wanted Gentry in Orange. (The good kind)

I agree that Gentry would've been a good get. Big and athletic.

However, I think we have that in DQ as well. Consider that DQ's SPARQ shuttle time is actually better than Gibson's. Also said he runs in the 4.6 range. I think he's plenty athletic.

That being said, I think we need a guy who has a strong, accurate arm who shows good, quick decision-making. From what I've read either Gentry or DQ would've met that qualification. Also, Ainge really likes DQ and Bama offered him as well.

Finally, while I don't put 100% stock into ratings and scouting service evaluations, DQ is considered the 5th prostyle QB in the country, well ahead of Gentry. Don't think we could've gone wrong with either, but since we got DQ, I'm ready to roll with him and not look back.

Wow, I had no idea about that shuttle time, very impressive. You're right that both are big guys with strong accurate arms. I'm glad to have QD committed. It will be fun to watch QD and Jennings progress next season and into their college careers.

All services rankings are only as good as the evaluator doing the ranking. Rivals used to be better. Certain evaluators gave always sucked though.
