'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

gibson will be a buckeye. just reading tbe tea leaves. hope im wrong.

Going from NM to TN is a pretty long way. I'm not sure I would have gone that far away for college. Hard for me to fault him for choosing the city of Austin either.

Gentry made his decision based on what was best for him. Wish him luck. I'm sure CBJ has already moved on as well. We want someone who wants to be a VFL and that will happen.

Very good source from last night that TX is the one to beat and that UT is a long shot. siap

It's 1 QB off the board. Coaches plan for this. When you recruit elite kids your gonna have some head scratchers.

This is a competent staff, they were obviously smart not to put all their eggs in 1 basket. We still have options and other targets can emerge. Idk who it'll be but I think we're gonna land a quality 2nd QB if we really want one.

we also have a soph who could RS this year potentially - a RSFR QB that was highly touted (on par imo w/Gentry coming out) - and a really talented QB prospect already committed - granted he is more of an athlete at this stage but as long as Dobbs or Fergy develops Jennings should have time to try and become a better QB

so we have multiple backup plans to soften the blow

I hope this means we get Gibson - my guess is we just lost out to a really good program for Gentry though

This GIF needs a "SOON..." for Donnie...

I didn't realize Strong had such a history with Gentry. Of course no one was mentioning that until after Gentry commits.

#Texas has told Locksley they want him to visit in June and they would still love to have him. But told Gentry he was only QB. Hmmmmm

Probably about the same thing CBJ was telling him I'd guess. Tell Gentry he is the QB and Jennings is the ATH. Strong tells Gentry he is the QB and Locksley is the ATH.

"No worries son, your our guy".

Because Gentry is a legit qb. It's gonna really piss me off seeing him ball at Texas.

I've never been on the gentry band wagon. He looks like a good prospect with great measurables, but I expected better stats from him being from NM and everything.. We'll see I guess. I'm glad we have JJ in orange and white.

Have to wonder if we miss on Gibson or Francois, if CBJ doesn't put on the full-court press with Gentry, to try and flip his commitment.

Especially in light of Ferguson's departure. That really changes the dynamics of his decision, and leaves 2 returning scholarship player's. If Dobbs can't beat out Worley this year, that could open the door wide open for a freshman like Gentry (if he can make it as an EE) next year.

I wouldn't call it quits, just yet. Texas ain't exactly a championship caliber team, either, at this point. And with UGA and SCjr breaking in new QB's, they aren't a lock for the SEC E by any means. We have the pieces now to take this division. So, Butch still has a little something to try and flip the kid.

I guarantee that Butch never let up after he committed to Texas.

I doubt it matters. It looks like Gentry picked TX because of the prior relationship with the coaches. It was also closer to home which he mentioned was important. IF Strong tries to double dip and grab another QB after telling Gentry he was their guy, does it really matter as we already have another QB committed as well? IF Strong does try to take another QB, I'd think bama would actually be back in play for Gentry.

Can't see how Bama would be back in play and we wouldn't. They are not exactly geographically close to home. It hasn't even been established that Jennings would be recruited to play QB here. A lot of schools were looking at him at the safety position. If Texas goes after another QB, I think UT definitely becomes a player here again.

Reason I think bama would be back in play and not us would be they don't have another QB committed. Much easier to sell being "the guy" when he is the only guy in the class. JMO

Jennings said long before he committed he would not consider schools not recruiting him to play QB. He committed to Tennessee fairly early in the process. Tells me they said QB. JMO

I think Gentry wants to be at a top flight school as close to home as possible. Texas fits his needs. I believe that his recruitment is done, at least in his mind.

Reading thru this thread it's funny how bad this whole board wanted this kid (me included) and to be our main QB for this class...

Well our guy QD is #175 overall and the 5th ranked pro-style QB, while Gentry is the 12th ranked pro-style per 247's update today.

We got ourselves a good one boys.
