I'll give you that - they've got four and are hot right now. But they moved divisions so they wouldn't have to play Alcoa anymore.
Look at the overall (and recent) championship level successes at AHS and MHS, it's not even close.
OK, I'll play, but first of all I have nothing to do with Fulton - a couple of friends coach there, but no personal ties.
Fulton plays in the classification that they are supposed to play in. They didn't move up to avoid playing anybody.
If you want to point a "who is ducking who" finger, both Fulton and Alcoa had a mutual open date last year and needed a 10th regular season game. Fulton wanted to play, and even offered to play at Alcoa. Gary Rankin said no, and ended up scheduling a non-TSSAA member small Christian school from Middle Tennessee that they had to pay to come and play them instead.
Just saying.

Good post...and I agree. Fulton certainly isn't in the business of trying to "duck" anyone imo...
Come on now! I was just playing about that - I threw in the wink, but I guess it didn't come through...
Anyways, Fulton is playing in the correct classification, but that didn't stop Alcoa from owning them despite being a waaayyy smaller school. Alcoa has approximately 550 students - just over the limit from being a 2A school, actually. Fulton has about 950 students.
Found this write up of the series prior to the '09 game:
"Alcoa leads the all-time series 6-2. Before the 2006 win, Fultons lone victory in the series came in 1986 on the dedication night of Bob Black Field. The game went into overtime before Fulton came away with a 10-7 victory. Mike Potter, who was a FHS assistant coach from 1994-2008, kicked the winning field goal. The Tornadoes have a 3-1 advantage in the series in games played at Fulton. The Falcons have been shutout three times against Alcoa."
After that:
2009 - Alcoa 27, Fulton 7
2010 - Alcoa 49, Fulton 0
2011 - Alcoa 28, Fulton 8
2012 - Alcoa 30, Fulton 7
That puts it at 10-2 all-time in Alcoa's favor, coupled with Alcoa's 13 state championships. Fulton has how many?
I rest my case. All in good fun, fellas :hi:
OK, on student numbers, let's be sure to get the Paul Harvey out there, too, in order to be fair.
And again, I have to say that I am not an Alcoa basher. I have two nephews who played football there and another who was an outstanding baseball player for the Tornadoes back in the mid and late 90s. I've been to many an Alcoa game and pulled for them.
That said, if you are going to talk about student population numbers, then you have to make the point that Alcoa is an open zone school, and there have been a good number of athletes (football and other sports, as well) who have come from out of zone to Alcoa. The tuition at Alcoa is among the lowest open zone tuition cost in East Tennessee.
And I am not saying that Alcoa does anything wrong, but they do have that option to bring students in to their zone who just happen to be good to great athletes that most schools districts don't.
And, yes - some other schools are open zone schools, too - Maryville, Oak Ridge, Science Hill, and D-B also are, just to name a few off the top of my head.
Just trying to be fair and accurate.
I talked to a guy on his team and he said he's really quick but small.. I thought he would be in the slot, but he said he's been playing mostly on the outside. Said he's got a ton of school work to make up, but his teachers and coaches are helping him through so far.
Just talked to my Dad about Jaylond. I can confirm that about a week ago his scholarship offer was pulled. Jaylond's grades are falling miserably and his attitude has declined as well.
As a reminder my facts are through my Dad who works with Jaylond's "foster dad". Just thought I'd inform you all.
Bump. Lots of smoke here. Would be nice to hear P. Fort or Hubbs take on Woods' offer supposedly being pulled.Woods was at the Orange and White game last weekend. It gave him a chance to speak with offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian. "I spoke to him at the orange and white game," Woods said. "He told me that he was happy with my decision and glad I was comfortable. He told me to work my tail off on the field win and in the classroom to get back on track." -VQ
