'15 TN ATH Nathan Cottrell

There are always going to be busts and gems in the recruiting business. It's why 5 stars recruits are never a sure thing. its up to our coaches to catch those to the best of their ability. have faith in the coaching staff.

No. He ran freshman year full time and indoor his sophomore year. He put a sub 11 100 his freshman year. Hurt his hammy sophomore year and gave it up.

Thanks. If he went sub 11, especially that young, then he's got legit speed regardless of 40 time.

No there is not. 4.3 is not something that just anyone can do

Here's a list of rivals prospects that all had a 4.39 or faster on their rivals page (some rounded up to 4.4) for the class of 2010, how many do you recognize?

Rivals 40 times are not very accurate at all. Rivals speaks to recruit. Recruit says, I am 5'11 and weigh 187LBS as of today. I ran a 4.37 yesterday. Rivals posts the info. Sometimes it is accurate and sometimes it's not. I would bet ALOT of kids claim 4.4 when they can't back it up.

Maybe they should cancel the NFL combine. These numbers don't mean anything. Only the eyeball test matters right?

Maybe coaches should just stop watching film and draft based on combine numbers.

DO yourself a favor and trust your coaches.

I don't care if he goes to UT or not. But your asinine statement about SPARQ scores is plain stupid. No one is saying coaches' evaluations don't matter. The SPARQ score is an athletic measurement. And Nathan is off the charts. There is a direct correlation as was intended when they developed the test.

Exactly! This is why I have made a big deal about the laser timed 4.35. Plus, if any of those kids were true 4.3 guys. Maybe they blew their knees out, or something. Lots of super talented super fast kids never pan out for other reasons.:good!:

Do you even watch the draft? How many guys fall in the draft, because of bad combine numbers? Or move up, because of a great showing? I'm not saying it's the end all be all, but it is a factor that everyone in the world but you take into account. :good!:

LOL SPARQ does not use the same testing methods that the NFL combine does. The NFL does not test verticals by jumping on a mat that measures how long youre in the air. Thats why there was like 25 kids at the Opening that jumped over 40 inch verts. How many people did that in the NFL combine? Also you see offensive linemen running 4.6 and 4.7s. That is very rare at the NFL combine.

This is Daryl Rollins-Davis all over again.
Kid from Knoxville that runs in the 4.3s with very similar stats
140 attempts for 1990 yards (14.2 per carry) and 39 TDs

Except he's 20 pounds heavier, 2 inches taller, faster and stronger than Rollins. And he can play both sides of the ball and is a great KR. Other that, good comparison.

HERE is how SPARQ tests the 40. Go watch any combine 40, and you see it is the exactly the same. Lasers at the start, and finish lines. Not a guy standing there with a stopwatch.

EDIT: I just dont care anymore.

The people thinking he is the best player in the country will be upset when he doesnt turn out to win the Heisman

Is there one post in this thread claiming him to be the best player in the country, or future Heisman? I just want more speed on the team. Aren't you tired of a 3 yard play going for a 50 yard TD?

What is the relation to him of localvol and steino, the dedication is above and beyond regular posters who just like a prospect. Just curious what it is? Not saying anything negative just wondering.

Father and father's backup account IMO

As I stated previously in this thread, I know the Cottrell's and Nathan well. My son plays for West with him. I've coached him and coached against him for years. For the record, I'm pretty in tune with his recruitment and I will not disclose all I know but there are going to be some good opportunities for him. I can say we've had about 15 different coaches at practice this week. And we'll have more next week looking at Nathan and a few other kids.

Also, I don't care if UT offers but I do know if they do, he probably will accept. I have seen a lot of HS ball in Knoxville and he is one of the more dynamic playmakers I've seen both offensive land defensively.

West has a good relationship with UT. In the last 3-4 years Mobley, Bullock and Underwood have gone there to play with varying degrees of success. So I feel very confident that UT will give him an honest look and if he gets an offer it will be well deserved. If he doesn't there will be no hard feelings from the Cottrell's or Nathan, he will have other opportunities.

If not UT, I would love to see him at an SEC school.
