IMO, you do if a prospect equally or more talented wants on board and isn't going to flirt with the enemy. But like I said...thats just my opinion.
I just want talented players who bleed orange and don't listen to fluff from other schools (after they have committed, that is). Maybe that is too much to ask.
And I said as much. If cutting DJ loose allows you to get a D'Andre Walker and KP or some other equal combo then so be it. But don't cut them loose without a guaranteed replacement who's an equal or better talent in your back pocket.
"Yeah, let's just decide to cut a kid from the winningest HS football program in the state run by one of the most respected figures in Tennessee HS football with offers from Stanford, Bama, and LSU", said no one ever.
Really, even Derek Dooley wouldn't be that dumb.

A co-worker of mine and I were trying to think of an athlete (in any sport) from Maryville HS that has contributed anything at all to UT athletics over the last 30 years and aside from the one season Aaron Douglas played ('09) we couldn't do it. We came up with a handful of athletes that had success in other places (Lee Humphrey UF bball, Carl Stewart Auburn fball, Nick Black Clemson fball, Patton Robinette Vandy fball - most recently)..The most recent we could think of was Mike Casteel and he played from '79-'82. I think it is the best public high school in the state of Tennessee both academically and athletically and it would be great to have an athlete from there finally break through and become a star at UT...I hope Dylan Jackson appreciates the unique opportunity he has to be that athlete and what that would mean for his legacy in his hometown. He would be a legend in that town for even having a good career. If he does go to Alabama or LSU that is not only shot to hell but he would be just another player at those schools. I hope he thinks better of taking those other visits.
With Boulware and Richmond likely coming... Its appear more likely that Jackson stays at DE. Win/Win for Vols, provides a RS opportunity with Ford and Butcher already in the fold.
