'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

What? Kid is huge and frame could easily translate.
Just relax people. He would be great on either side.
Seems like I saw him playing some O-line. Big athletic and not a slacker. Legit, and the offers confirm.

There is going to be a drastic difference in just physical appearance if you put all four of those guys in a line up. Gilliam, Blair, Richardson, Jackson. I understand he hasn't had any time in our S&C program, but it's going to be tough to get up to the size and weight necessary to compete in the SEC. He's a big guy, but he ain't "a big ole boy."

So you've seen him in person?
FWIW, I just stood two feet from Al Haynesworth this week. Dylan has an SEC frame. The talk about OT is not just talk. Do you know how big Gilliam was his senior year? I can't believe you used him as an example. An unranked, no star, undersized Lineman.
No offense but do you know what your talking about?

No offense, but are you always a pretentious jerk? It's not about what he looks like as a senior, we all know that, but their need to be some physical attributes their and I don't see them. Jackson looks like a guy, to me, IMO, who should be a leaner, aggressive, pass rushing WDE. But, I'm no scholar. Please continue to belittle your fellow Vol fans. I was merely trying to have a civil discussion. There was no need to turn it into personal attacks. Either way, the OT talk is exactly that. Just talk and rumors. It is speculation that originated in this forum and has grown legs. It has not come from the mouth of any horse associated with UT's football program.

Seriously, I'd love to have a reasonable conversation here for ONCE. I know that tone is lost over the internet, but that was uncalled for.

Offer confirms nothing.

College football is littered with highly ranked HS players that became busts.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a civil discussion on the internet before. It usually turns racial somehow before it is over too.

Maybe I have too much respect for my fellow humans, even if we are communicating anonymously via the internet. You get brave, you say something foolish, no real repercussions follow you online. It is better to assume you are speaking to everyone face to face. Allows the party your speaking with and yourself to retain more dignity.

For you East TN vols, Dylan's playing on MyVLT tonight. They just started a lightning delay, so it may be a little while. :hi:

He's making some plays. Apparently Stripling and Gillespie are in attendance tonight.

Per VQ, had a HUGE game last night. His coach, George Quarles, called it the best of his career. He had multiple TFLs and QB hurries. Stripling and Gillespie were in attendance. Even some current players.... Coleman Thomas, Josh Smith, Cortez McDowell, and even a handful of others.

Here's a quote from Quarles after Dylan's performance last night.

"He made a lot of tackles. Started off the game with a sack. He was everywhere," Quarles said. "Dylan's best days are ahead of him, I promise. He's got to just learn to turn it loose and play, but he's such a great team guy that I think it inhibits his play sometimes. He's a bell cow for us, he's our leader. I thought tonight was a great night for him to show off."

Gilliam, Blair, and Richardson aren't 17 years old though. Plenty of elite NFL offensive tackles started out as tight ends in high school, including one (Eric Fisher) that Butch Jones coached into a #1 overall draft pick. If Jackson is quick enough as a 6'6" 250 lb 17 year old to be a disruptive defensive end, he should still be quick enough after gaining 50 lbs in a college strength program and moving to tackle.

We have enough talented DEs for the foreseeable future with Barnett, Hendrix, Henderson, Jakob Johnson, and all of the other '15 prospects. Dylan Jackson is far more needed at OT, and that might be best for his pro prospects anyway.

this guy better get his 4th star?
His coach has coach multiple high profile recruits and says Dylan's ceiling is as high as anyone he's ever coached.
Sounds like a no brainer IMO

People complain all the time about repeated VN jokes that have gotten old i.e. Rod Wilks. I'd rather hear a hundred old VN puns than the name Eric Fisher again. Give it up guys. It's early, but Fisher isn't even looking that good in the NFL so far.

So you're saying Butch was a good enough coach to coach up a mediocre player in a position that he wasn't used to, and was able to turn him into a number 1 pick? Way to go Butch!

He found one guy who far surpassed expectations of almost everyone, and now that guy is being exposed as mostly a combine star in the NFL. It's not like CMU was pumping out NFL linemen the entire time Butch was there. That one anomaly is not worth repeating ad nauseam...

Callahan saying on Dave Hooker that Dillon could play OT, DE, or DT depending on how he does.

Okay, how about the fact that Butch Jones also recruited and coached Joe Staley at Central Michigan, who's now a Pro Bowl LT with the 49ers? Like Fisher (and a lot of other NFL tackles), Staley was a 225 lb high school tight end.

One starting-caliber NFL tackle from Central Michigan may be an "anomaly," but two is a pattern. Butch Jones has an eye for O-line talent, and the fact he's still chasing after DEs like Phillips and Sweat with Jackson, Butcher and Ford already committed tells me that Jackson's probably destined for offense.

I'm not trying to downplay the evaluation or coaching ability of CBJ. I just don't think "because Eric Fisher" is a valid answer to every single discussion involving linemen.
