'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

I believe that Dylan knows he could end up somewhere besides DE at Tennessee. I believe he'll move into a top 5 or 6 player in TN by seasons end. He'll be a player wherever he ends up with the Vols.

Per VQ, had a HUGE game last night. His coach, George Quarles, called it the best of his career. He had multiple TFLs and QB hurries. Stripling and Gillespie were in attendance. Even some current players.... Coleman Thomas, Josh Smith, Cortez McDowell, and even a handful of others.

Here's a quote from Quarles after Dylan's performance last night.

"He made a lot of tackles. Started off the game with a sack. He was everywhere," Quarles said. "Dylan's best days are ahead of him, I promise. He's got to just learn to turn it loose and play, but he's such a great team guy that I think it inhibits his play sometimes. He's a bell cow for us, he's our leader. I thought tonight was a great night for him to show off."

Anyone else find these quotes confusing?

JJ is an example of why Butch shouldnt try to convert DEs to OTs. :)

Pretty interesting story that I didnt know about until today.

CBJ recruited him as a TE. He left CM after one year because he did not like the direction the program was heading. He never tried to convert JJ one time.

Jackson has the upside to play DE, DT, or OT depending on how he fills out.

He probably won't be expected to contribute at any of those positions as a freshman.

None of these are bad things.

I agree. Next season we will finally have quality depth at all positions. We will finally be back to the point where we play freshmen because they are really good rather than because we have to.

I'm on mobile but I'll gladly dig up the article where JJ said himself they asked him to covert to OT tomorrow when I have time.

Glad you can read Wikipedia but keep googling.

Actually here ya go....

JJ Watt: There was a point when I was asked to move to offensive tackle, but I am not the type of guy who is going to tell the coach anything…I am not going to tell them to do what I want. So, yes it is true I was approached to move to tackle. But in all honesty it wasn’t so much the move to tackle as it was my desire to move closer to home. I also wanted to go to a place that would let me play defensive end and I felt like Wisconsin presented me with the best opportunity to do that. Just the way the offense was working out there at CMU, there wasn’t really any opportunities for me to grow as a player. I had to do what was best for me. And no, I was never approached to play defense end by CMU.

I don't see how you are claiming a win on this one when the article you cite doesn't make the point you initially claimed which was that JJ was on D and Butch wanted to convert him to OT.
I know. It's quite clear JJ was a TE, was getting too big to play TE and was asked to move to OT. Instead he wanted to play DE so he walked on at a bigger school and earned his fame the hard way. I don't see what's hard to understand about this

Nothing to try and understand. He said JJ was never asked to change position, JJ said he was. What's so hard to understand about that?

You said Butch shouldn't convert DEs to OTs. He didn't do that with JJ.

Obviously not moving him to DE wasn't the right move. That's not what you said though. But it is also obvious butch did not try to convert JJ to an OT from DE. JJ was never a DE at CMU and probably never would have been if he stayed.

I don't know what else you're getting at. All of the above is fact. It's not objective besides the bolded statement

For the record (and no I don't have the link, but I bet the Google machine could find it for you), Bajakian was asked just the other day why they played JJW as a TE instead of a DE and his response was "Turns out he was a really good tight end too".

Bottom line DJ is a big athletic kid who makes plays. Watching both of Maryville's games the kid moves well for his size.
Jashon was practicing at DT through two weeks of fall camp and now starting in the SEC.
If DJ shows up next fall at 280 who knows. He looks bigger than several of UTs ends right now.
He has a great frame. Very grateful for that dilemma.

Interview on 104.5. Said he will play anywhere the coaches need him. Also said if they want him to red shirt, he'll do that. He just wants to be on the team and help anyway possible. Definitely bleeds orange

That's what I love to hear...a kid who understands what it means to be a part of a team. He's willing to do whatever it takes to help our VOLS be a better team and take that next step towards returning to our rightful spot among the college football elites. GBFO!!! #VFL

Uhmmm. Nothing.

Sorry, I beg to differ. Have seen a couple different places where people seem to think with the numbers game that we might tell him to take his LSU trip encouraging him to look elsewhere. I think it's a worthy conversation to say the least!

What happens to this young man if Taylor commits? Hate to lose one who bought into "the plan" so early.

Recruiting is a lot less fun when worrying about things like this.

I doubt anything will happen but even if DJ were to decommit, trust the staff. They've proven that they have a plan in place to fill that void.
