Also, instate tight end Jackson Harris looked really good physically and looked more athletic than he did last spring when I saw him at the IFM camp. He checked in about 6-4, 241-pounds and moved well and caught the ball well. I'll be interested to see how Tennessee recruits him moving forward as his stock continues to rise.
Tight end
First Team: Jackson Harris, TE, Columbia (Tenn.) Central
Harris plays in a high school offense that limits his role as a pass-catcher, but when he got the opportunity in St. Pete he showed that he's just as much of a threat in the passing game as he is as a blocker. He measured in at 6-foot-5, 241 pounds, but showed his athleticism by running a 4.85 40-yard dash and had a 29-inch vertical leap. He's a big body who is more of a throwback tight end, but his hands are good enough to be effective as a pass-catcher as well.
new article up on scout if anyone has a sub.. And hopefully we offer this kid! would be a great addition to the '15 class
I know coming into this past season there were questions about his athleticism and he just may not be the type of tight end Tennessee is looking for. He seems like more of an inline blocker guy than someone that is going to split out on a regular basis.
And to Jackson's credit, I saw him last spring and thought if only he could get a touch faster and add some explosion he could play SEC ball and then I saw him in Orlando last month and he was faster and more explosive, definitely more athletic than he was 8 months ago when I last saw him.
And that's how it should be, guy keeps progressing and kudos for him for doing that. Whether or not Tennessee offers Jackson is going to play ball somewhere in the SEC it looks like.
Harris may end up being the biggest recruit Columbia has produced in a long time, which is odd considering they had their worst season in a LOOONG time last year.
