'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

Ole miss owning the mid state in this class. Vols took it back last yr but that didn't last long.

They have the hot hand. UT will need to win 9 or more games to truly win all these battles. Some kids covet playing time which we have/had but many others covet the hot program.

That's about all ole miss will ever win at it's pinnacle. 9 games ESP in that division. That's what's crazy. They will never win that division. Bama, AU, LSU aren't going anywhere.

I'm a little surprised the father would ever let his son play at that school. What a strange recruitment.

As for Ole Mi$$, I wouldn't say they are owning the mid-state. With Ugo decommitting all they've landed at this point is a 3-star OT and at best a borderline 4-star TE in the '16 class, both from Vandy loving families.

They currently have only two midstate kids committed. Givens, who may or may not had a committable offer, and Ordway, that Tennessee backed off because his grades. Tennessee on the other hand has Jennings, Jones, Perry, Bruce, and Oliver committed from the midstate while they lead for Phillips and Amadi. I think Butch Jones is doing a pretty good job owning that part.

So we lead for phillips and amadi? Interesting...

And UT could really use Alex Givens.

Barton Simmons (247) CB'd Jefferson to Ole Miss this morning.

If you begin to look at it very closely what guy outside Richmond do they have that we couldn't have had committed to us right now? Van would have been a Vol had we not signed P. Will., which makes me believe he's afraid of the competition. Ugo wanted to be a Vol, and we slow played him. Plus, Ugo is no longer going to Ole Miss. Givens probably would have been a Vol too, but we slow played him for Richmond. In terms of Ordway, did we really push for him hard? Phillips looks like a LSU lean right now.

Point is, most these guys could have been Vols had our staff pursued them from the get go. Our staff made a bad error in placing all their money on Richmond, and then to make matters worse, they let the fool back at UT where he began to recruit Phillips, Van etc to Ole Miss. Richmond used our money to recruit against us. Had we not been scared of losing Richmond from the get go, we'd probably be sitting with commitments from OL such as Allen, Givens, etc. Staff dropped the ball on the OT recruiting this year as far as I'm concerned.

I'd say LSU does, although I think LSU is just recruiting Ugo as a way to land Phillips considering they just recently started recruiting him hard. Only way they take him IMO is if both come as a package. They have no need for another CB with 2 Elite guys already committed and Donte Jackson likely ending up there as well.

If say Phillips were to choose TN on Jan 3rd, I bet LSU would stop recruiting Ugo immediately.

Very well said, I totally agree on how they handled the whole Drew Richmond drama. Hopefully going forward they've learned their lessons on how things usually work with Memphis kids and the drama and BS that always seems to surround them. They couldn't have handled it worse by letting him back on campus after he committed to them IMO. It was plain as day that the decision was made by the mother, so bringing the kid back on campus was going to do nothing but damage.

Really don't understand why Van would not choose UT. In-state with a good QB to get him the ball, i know we have PW but come on why would one guy make you not come to a school. I dont really get why he isnt high on UT. Seeing what we have done with some freshman this year you think he would want to come and do the same. Just dont get it!

That's debatable, but the point is OM isn't owning the mid-state area by any means.

Debatable? Yeh since our roster is stocked full of good D1 OT prospects. kid is apparently pretty good. That thinking is how you end up with a natural right guard playing left tackle & a walk on with no ACL playing right tackle.

I wish de1conley would chime in here.

Yep. Looks to be one of those cases where a kid says one thing and does another. Then you get opinionated parents, coaching dads.... I don't care who the insider is, It's a crap shoot.

This one has a Drew Richmond feel to it.

Agreed..Also wonder how much the Coach's are pushing for Van. Curious to know, especially with Newsome gaining traction and visiting next month. I don't fully trust Preston Williams. He kind of has that Ambles/Da'Rick Rogers feel to him. Tons of talent but not sure what you will get day to day. I honestly don't trust him to not flip to GA, especially if Van doesn't end up there.

I am more worried bout LSU than ole miss. Miles is all over JoeJuan Williams ar Fr Ryan, as everyone knows they are also in on Ugo and Phillips.
We will see if ole miss has the staying power?

Maybe a kid being rebellious against his parents' wishes and taking the 3rd choice?

I dunno he doesn't seem like that kind of kid. Supposedly he hates GA's offense and only committed because it's what his Mom wanted. Think he comes from a good family and with his Dad being a former NFL WR and now a Coach there are worst guys to take advice from. Really curious if OleMiss is really in there andor how much UT wants him. Would think UT would take him all day unless they like Newsome better and like their chances. But Jefferson looks like he could play from day 1.
