'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

I get nervous with him just taking a snap for kneeldown...can't conceive that a true freshman could be ANY worse.

Pretty much. You know what you have with Nate, you know what his ceiling is and that's not going to change. A few freshmen give you a chance to find the solution at QB.

Id be shocked if peterman doesn't transfer. the only way he doesn't is if he doesn't care to play football but considering how hard he works at it I don't see that being the case. He prob transfers to lower level to get some confidence back

Ya, see I don't understand this thinking. It's pretty obvious his future is not playing QB as a career. For this reason, staying at UT is his best option in every respect. If he wants to get a normal job in the business world, a UT degree will almost certainly be a better option than whatever small unknown school wants him. If he wants to have a future in football in some capacity, again four years on the roster at an SEC school is resume gold towards becoming a high school assistant or a college GA.

Awesome. This has to be pretty cool for him. No pressure gets to ease into things. Get a feel for what to expect next year. Is he a student then?

FWIW Callahan said that players who participate in all star games are not allowed to join college teams for bowl preparation practices. QD is the only EE who will practice with team.

This is huge, especially if NP is transferring after the bowl game. QD will basically get 2 spring practices. That will be very important, in case Dobbs goes down with an injury early in the season

Callahan also has this to say..

"Also, this didn't make the story, but I asked Dormady about new Florida coach Jim McElwain apparently having followed him on Twitter this week and whether the Gators had reached out to him. Here's what he said:
“Nothing really ever came of that. They were recruiting me at Colorado State, and then, whenever he went there, I guess he just followed me. I haven’t talked to them or anything, so nothing’s really came of it.”

Am I the only one that thinks everyone is WAY overblowing the bowl practices? These guys practice constantly at different periods through the year, but a small set of bowl practices is somehow supposed to alter the trajectory of these guys' careers? Some people make it seem like the whole OL will suddenly "get it" because of a few bowl practices. Also, it's great if Dormady makes it in for bowl practice, but it's barely, if at all, different from him just starting with spring practice in my opinion.

Anything extra is good...maybe not great or extraordinary...but good.

Good is good. :good!:

No one is saying we're going to be world beaters next year because of 15 extra practices.

But they do make a difference, especially when the majority of your opponents are getting 15 extra practices and you're not.

If you go back to 2011, we've lost out on 45 total practices. That includes guys like Maggitt, Lane, Williams, Coleman, Randolph, Marcus Jackson, Darr, etc. That's pretty significant.

I think you are the only one. It's 15 practices for the current team. That's a lot. But yea Dormady being here isn't going to propel him into starting role, it just beats staying at home.

I am really excited to read this about QD. I was concerned about him when the S. Jones deal started coming out. Glad he is going to be here.

As a high school coach, we always took several of the better freshmen and moved them up to varsity at the end of the season during playoffs. They got reps on the scout team and they always improved and were more ready to compete the following spring, just because they knew what to expect and had that extra practice time.

Rod Wilks was only 45 bowl practices short of the Hall of Fame.

TIFIW: It was stated on the Swain Event today that QD and Jones were both at UT when Gruden was there helping evaluate QBs. According to Swain, Seth and Callahan, the coaches liked QD just a little bit better than Jones but the coaches would have been OK taking either one.

Yeah I'm not criticizing your info, just accessing that the current depth after Dobbs is scary if you plan on winning many games. Also I would add that I'm not sure Dobbs has secured himself as the long term solution at QB to this point if we actually had any talent to compete with him.

I agree with Dobbs not being the long term solution.

I'm wondering if we are trying to replace QD with SJ.. QD had a less than stellar year, didn't he?

He had a very good yr, especially considering he had no help and turned I think a two win team the yr before without him to I believe a ten win team. He made that team and will be a very good QB when he actually has some help around him.
