'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Patrick, Butch is no longer coaching in the MAC or Big East. he is coaching in the SEC and against the biggest and fastest defensive linemen in all of college football. He is also playing with a full set of tall, fast, future 1st round draft picks at WR, which he never had at either of his previous stops. What he did in the past is now null and void. He is adapting his offense to fit his personnel and against better athletes and defenses. He understands that he has to have a healthy QB who can deliver the ball to playmakers on his team, which are his WRs.

Just like Urban Meyer had to?

I wanted TG but I am very happy with this commit and I think it will look a lot better this fall when he starts and plays his senior season.

Last 3 pages 3 posts about Dormady.

Freaks on topic thread really hit home.

The argument is over Patrick's assertion that Dormady DOESN'T fit the offense...it's ON-TOPIC...just not in big block letters! :)

Patricia, you don't have to be real fast, to be effective as a QB, running the ball situationally.

Andrew Luck averaged more yards per carry than Russell Wilson last year. When a defense stays back because of a passing threat, it opens up running lanes.

This is real simple and I'm sorry you don't understand this fact.

I figure I could stay away from this thread for a while since we got the guy, but look at all these people who are incapable of reading posts.

As Leb, Tux, others, and I have stated a ridiculous amount of times so far in this thread, we don't need a run first quarterback. We are not Auburn or OSU, we just want our our QB to be able to pick up the yards that are presented to him when the DE crashes inside. The QB only has to keep the ball around 5 times a game to not only keep the defense honest but to also pick up a pretty good deal of rushing yards. For the most part our offense is going to be about spreading out the defensive backfield with shorter routes so that we can strike them over the top with our grade A recievers.

Also I can't believe people are using his sophomore stats to prove he is "unathletic". The kid only rushed 18 times? No he was more than likely sacked that many times which is why he had negative rushing yardage. His HS offense never calls for him to run, but at both camps and as a baseball player he has proven himself to be plenty athletic.

I guess I can address one more thing. Yes, we are still recruiting TG. Just like last year and this year when CBJ has continued to recruit kids he had no intentions of taking just because you never know what might happen in recruiting. You have to have your ass covered. Butch was recruiting Harrel and Johnson, even talking them up, but was he willing to take their commitment? Nope. I kind of laugh at those who still or ever believed that TG is number one on our board. What made you think that, a gut feeling? You do realize this staff tells basically every recruit that they are their number one guy and that they'd love to have them. It's just recruiting speak. The only way to tell who was truly high up the board is who commits to us or has us scrambling because they committed elsewhere.

I agree with you, I think we are still recruiting TG; recruiting is a risky business and you never know what will happen. You hedge your bets as much as possible. I think this probably factors into the decision regarding whether or not TG would be a take after Dormady's commitment. Maybe Butch was frustrated by the performances and lack of separation from his QBs and wants to inject as much talent into that position as possible.

If he fails to win the job, you still get a very fast play-maker on your team. If he wins the job, it means Butch thinks we have a better chance of winning games with him. If we have to make a 4th or 5th string player walk out or walk-on, would it be worth it? Maybe...

I believe the reason many people believed TG was high on the coaches' board is because I believe one of the media members claimed that Wimbush and *Gibson* were the top targets early this year. Someone questioned the source and, iirc, they confirmed they had been shown "the board." Granted, it probably changes constantly, but I think that's why...

EDIT: NOT Gentry, Gibson... sorry... my argument made no sense otherwise.

And the deep ball opens up when they worry about the run.

This.....all day.

This has never been, nor will it likely ever be, a QB run-heavy offense.....way too many other skilled playmakers. Free yards, short first downs, and keeping the defense honest is what is needed at the QB position.

What position is stronger for us now?

Please watch Big 10 football. That might be better suited for you.

Football is primarily a passing game now.

He was implying a solid RB keeps the defense honest to open up the deep ball. You know...to show that the QB doesn't have to be an extreme running threat...

Time to update Rivals. He is definitely better than Riley Lovingood.
