'16 AL ATH Tadarryl Marshall (FORMER UT commit 4/28/15)

Like some have said he could tell them to walk on, grayshirt, or wait until a few weeks before signing day he let them know now so the kids can still take visits and what not.....Butch is a character coach I'm positive of that...like Tadarryl said it's a business

No it's not. Nobody forced butch to say to hell with the numbers and deprive a young man to properly explore his options. If I'm a 3 star and committed to butch I'm nervous until my fax is accepted If I notice it other coaches and players sure have

I was surprised how this class started out. Butch took a few lower rated players so early. Butch done this last year to someone who had been committed a long time. I would not have done this with Marshall. This guy is a star for his team. I hope he proves our staff wrong and becomes a star where ever he goes.

Sucky part of this meat market business, but imagine the meltdown in the fanbase if CBJ took a lowered ranked (although talented player) and turned down a higher rated player. The only thing people talk about on here is needing to do everything necessary to win. Now when this happens people act offended, yet if Velus Jones announced his commitment, Tadaryl would be forgotten about in 5 minutes. Butch gets crucified on here for calling the wrong plays, so imagine if he signs the wrong players.

Too many bad takes every year

Bs the coaches don't do a better job on the front end every singles damn class

Burning bridges will catch up with them at some point

So what if it does? There will always be mistakes at recruiting. There is no perfect system. Guys get recuited over everywhere in the country. Thats not going to change.

Butch is in a lose lose situation with some of this fan base. I think Butch has his faults, but he is a great recruiter and knows what he is doing.

I agree. Just wait on bigger fish and work way down. Not down up

That was the Dooley Method... Aim high and wait. It's how we ended up with zero O-line recruits in 2012 class. He had no safety net guys.

I'm not saying I like this business of cutting guys like Ford last year or TD now, and I CERTAINLY AM NOT defending Dooley, just pointing out a potential pitfall on the other side of the coin.

Personally I think you CAN have your cake and eat it too, as long as you are honest with the kid and are clear about the situation... and, for all we know, maybe the staff was.

I'm discussing something that makes us all uncomfortable because we know in our hearts it's wrong. It needs to be said tho. Said it on jabo Lee and everyone since

Jabo was different situation IMO.

He didn't tell the coaches he had a torn ACL.

Cutting down or a kid flipping to another school Equal Imo ,no harm no foul

Agree. I don't like to see it late in the cycle. This kid has plenty of time to find another school. Continual evaluation and improvement is what the staff owes the school and the team.

Was I condoning it for anyone else? Don't apologize for him just because it's your favorite team. If Alabama had done we would all say they screwed the guy to make room. Which is exactly what we did. Wrong is wrong and you can get a good measure of a man in how he responds to situations like this. Any of you who rationalize it can't claim we got a family atmosphere here and that VFL means anything. The man knew he had a numbers prob and has put the young man in a bad spot. He sure can't official on a game day now

maybe you shouldn't follow recruiting. you're too emotionally vested.

Confirmed with sources per Scout that we had academic concerns. Never question NotoriousRPP. 😉

Before we assume Butch just called him and said "REVOKED!" let's give him the benefit of a doubt. Is it not beyond he realm of possibility that Butch let him know we were recruiting several players at his position and circumstances could change?

I may be wearing orange glasses, but nothing about Butch Jones says he doesn't like and respect his recruits, commits and players enough to be transparent with them.

From what I'm hearing it had nothing to do with any specific recruit. There were qualification concerns on our end. Staff doesn't want anymore Orlando Brown or Joseph Henderson issues.

Marshall is a talented kid that will probably end up at a mid major program.

He has offers from the academies. Surely he can get into Tennessee...

If they backed off it was probably for a good reason. The kid handled the situation really well. Wish him luck wherever he lands.

You know I like you Sto but Marshall is taking it better than you. None of us know how the offer was presented as far as an offer that is committable or not. If he was told the numbers may make this an issue or whatever. I don't like it but with the limits placed on rosters now, I think most players know how it works as a business. Honestly, the pressure on the coaches because if how they get paid and on the conferences and the refs perhaps because of pay out of making the playoffs ect. It is not the same college football we loved just like stupid pitchers getting 30 million a year is killing a game that is no longer the game of the golden years of baseball. It is all starting to make one sick of all sports. Not the same game and to win, you have to do this crap. If he doesn't and loses, then he gets even more crap to deal with than this blip. Unfortunate but true. Sorry for the long rant.

Fortenberry said he doesn't think this means anything regarding a particular recruit, just making room. Tifwiw

Sooooo then the $65,000 question: with no replacement locked up, what the heck do we need the room for?

I liked this kid from the day he committed to us. Still like him after the way he handled this. Hope he goes somewhere and stands out.

Unlike some on the field stuff I will never question Butch Jones on the recruiting trail.

The best in the nation.

There's a reason behind this I'm sure. Probably has something to do with Richt's firing IMO.

Bad karma for butch to keep doing this

I said this last class and will say it again. This is clearly how Butch recruits. He takes some commitments early from guys he would love to have. However, he keeps recruiting and if anyone higher up the board commits or if guys open up recruiting because of coaching changes, then he will push the earlier guys to leave. It's simple, and it has resulted in top 10 classes. This is big boy football, and it is a rough business.
