Adding Brown would help take a DL that is going to be pretty darn good, to being a stellar one. After KMac and Tuttle, there is a notable dropoff in talent. If Brown plays here, he'll have not only a great opportunity to get the same amount of playing time those two did, this season, but be part of the team that will likely win the SEC E

I disagree about the talent drop off. Not because I dont think that Kmac and Shy are talented. But because I think Vickers is a baller. Vereen was the most underrated player on the D. Now that he's broken out a little, I think it's Vickers.

I disagree on that. Vareen has flashed once in a while, but overall he's been an average SEC DE. Plus, I wasn't even referring to DE's, but DT's....which is the position Brown would be playing. At that position, Vickers and O'Brien are pretty big dropoffs in terms of talent and size.

Vickers was ahead of KMac and Tuttle only because those two were true freshmen. I bet it will be a different story next fall. Still a bit concerned about Piccou's size to play DT in the SEC. Hope he has a growth spurt.

1) I know that you were referring to DTs. My remark about Vereen involved him being the most underrated player on the ENTIRE DEFENSE. Which had nothing to do with whether he's a DT or a DE.

2) Ask Saban, Kiffin and Cam Robinson if Vereen is average.

3)Stripling and Jancek rave about Vickers and the progress he's made. And although I know it's not necessarily indicative of success at the position, he's also allegedly the first or second strongest player on the team. Tuttle is a monster though. I will gladly admit that. I think Kmac will be very good too in time.

How good Vickers is has nothing to do with needing Brown. Brown is still a need for depth in the future. We need at least 5-6 players for the DT rotation, every year. Even if he redshirted next year, Brown would be important for the following year. If we want to return to championship level status, we have to maintain quality depth.

I completely agree. My only argument is that there won't be a drop off in talent because Vickers is a good enough player in his own right.

This guy is not going to redshirt! Read this article in the AJC from today and check out his highlights. This guy is a freak athlete!

Championship tams must have Dl quality and depth. We have some quality but need more quality depth, especially for the starters in the next couple of years.

I never said Vickers or Vareen were garbage, but average SEC players...and on some SEC teams, that's good enough to be a starter or in the rotation.
But even if Vareen had a few good games this year, he was largely silent most of the time. His game against Bama reminded me of Corey Miller vs Ky in 2013. Miller racked up like 4 sacks, I think, but didn't do much the rest of the season. Makes you wonder where that level of play was, before.

Vickers reminds me of Walls or Jordan Williams...a bit undersized at DT, and not much more production. As K-Mac and Tuttle grow, Vickers will be shifted somewhere in the rotation. No way does he start ahead of either of those two, next season.

Vareen will have a very, very hard time keeping his starting job opposite of Barnett...with Kyle Phillips having a full year under his belt and Kongbo coming in as a JC transfer. He's going to have to find a way to step up his game and be more of a consistent player at DE, in order to do that.

If Vereen plays like he did the last half of the season he'll be hard to keep off the field.

Derrick Brown's mother:
"Congratulation to our son Derrick @DerrickBrown90 for being a good person!! Remember you are the president and CEO of your brand"
Which coach do you know often speaks of being the CEO of something? Also, in reading between the lines she follows 4 TN coaches. The second most she follows is Auburn with 2. With all that he has said and receiving the last visit, anyone that thinks we are a long shot for Brown is delusional.

What Coach always brings up the Tennesee brand too?

anytime a kid takes an official. they are interested. anytime a kid's parents are involved, relationships become paramount. Rodney Garner is at the Barn. Luckily we have Butch, and Strip. Id call us a player here, always thought so. We may eek this one out yet, but it will come down to the literal wire.

unfortunately we may play role of runner up in Hardeman sweepstakes.

Ah recruiting silly season. Its not just recruits who go silly.

So we now have CEO, brand and ......... as clues to future commits.

Warrior, Brown, Dickerson, and Laguins. If everybody that's scheduled to visit Jan 29 makes it in, then I like our chances with all of them.

Vereen actually had a very nice season in a backup role/as a part-time player. He was 6th on the team in tackles (35) and 3rd in both sacks (3) and TFLs (8) behind JRM and Barnett. Not the most talented player but very productive this year IMO.

People forget Vereen has had some injury issues as well. Looked to me like he finally got healthy and went to work.
