'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

We only have 3 spots unless: Dickerson, Warrior, Brown, Byrd, Daniels, and Kongbo all want to sign. Then we find a way for all six to sign. I know that sounds cold hearted to tell some 3 star player who have been committed for a while that you do not have a spot for them after all. But this is a tough business.

Sorry but that's not how it works

I don't understand why we even brought the kid in on an OV. Jones doesn't even meet with him at all. Very very odd.

All this talk about moss being the backup plan you don't bring this kid in as a backup plan and never meet with him IMO. Appears there was no scenario in which we wanted this kid

Very very odd and hard to figure
Nothing odd about it if you understand last minute recruiting. If we have 4 spots open, (which seems to be the consensus), and we feel we have 2 filled say with Warrior and Kongbo. Byrd and Brown are 50/50, you have to have back up plans if you miss on Byrd and or Brown. If you have a 5 * at any position who wants to visit the final w/e (no matter how much they like other schools), you let them visit. If they love their visit, you give them the opportunity to show you how much once they get back home. You give them the chance to show you by their actions, that you are their new love after seeing what you have to offer first hand, instead of you're favorite school since childhood. It's all about having the best players available as fall back plans if you can't close the deal on the ones you most want. Seems pretty simple and common sense to me.

100% agree with everything you said BUT

Explain why butch wouldn't even meet with the kid?

It's also important to remember we didn't do a in home

247sports article:

Volunteers coach Butch Jones never did an in-home visit with Dickerson.

"I asked a few other kids (this weekend) and they said they didn't get in-home visits either," Dickerson said. "A few of them were committed kids, too."

Sounds like he knows he might not be able to commit.

I would definitely tell someone to kick rocks for Dickerson.

But it's tough to do that when you wait this late in the process to commit. It's one thing for Butch to part ways with a lower ranked recruit a few ago, it's another to do it now. What if he parts ways and then Dickerson chooses FSU? Butch isn't going to do that unless he is 100%. Hence why he told Dickerson to stay in contact if he's actually serious.

It will be super interesting to see how this all plays out.

Again, common sense prevails.
1. The staff feels Warrior and Byrd (if we could pull him last minute), plus an elite DT, and the #1 Juco player in the country are more important this cycle.
2. It's no secret, FSU has been his favorite school since childhood. It's a scenario, where the player has to convince CBJ that TN is indeed the place he wants to be. That he has had a change of heart and is 100% committed, no looking back, questioning his decision if UT does take him.

Or maybe Butch knows he is heavily leaning elsewhere and simply is not going to spend a lot of time and energy -- unless Dickerson calls after the visit and tells him different, which is why told the kid to call and stay in touch if he wanted to jump aboard the Big Orange Train.

precisely

"Landon Dickerson - As we've noted several times, this one has a weird feel to it. Dickerson's visit was a good one, but Alabama and FSU are both real options as well. What should be noted is that the next 24 hours could provide clarity on just where things stand with Tennessee and Dickerson. We believe the defensive side of the ball is taking priority over the offensive side of the ball down the stretch."

Nailed it IMO.

At least we don't pay through the nose for tickets to see amateur football games.

Since when is a 5 star offensive lineman a backup plan? It has to be that the staff has had strong signals that the kid aims to sign with FSU; otherwise, it wouldn't make sense not to put the full press on him. If I was convinced he was legit, and that we had a chance to sign him, he'd be a priority over a JUCO. What does Kongbo have--2 years of eligibility? Juco's are very much hit or miss--and often, miss. Wasn't Blair a top 5, Juco can't miss tackle? How'd that turn out, besides not even close?

We need Brown more than Dickerson

We've got two potential stud DTs in Tuttle and KMac--and both young, plus a one or two veterans and a couple of others for depth, no? I thought out defensive line talent was better than our offensive line talent.
