'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

It may be hard for us message-board guys to measure toughness.....

But players KNOW...about the intangibles...when they spend time around other players.....

Could you imagine sitting in the locker-room with Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning and not KNOWING which dude had the mental toughness and commitment to excellence that it takes to win????

But a lot of IDIOTS back in the day before the draft had Leaf as a better QB than Peyton....:salute:

And a lot of those IDIOTS were former players... It never will be an exact science.

Interesting. I wonder is this is what happened to Torrance Gibson.

Yes. TG had a bad attitude while here from not wanting to compete during the camp to acting like he basically should be catered to and also receive special treatment while here. He was soon seperated from and we then stopped recruiting him before he left the visit.

Got that impression from the limited scuttlebutt available. I thought it was telling that he managed to delay his visit just long enough to miss Gruden's passing camp (which Dormady made a special trip to attend).

While I agree its great to have player input, Jones can't rely to much on that.. because I'm sure there are situations of conflicting interests.

Hearing the backstory on some of these kids is very interesting. It's great that our players are holding themselves accountable for recruiting and making sure we get the right recruits in our program! The coaches and players have really bought into CBJ's philosophy. This is a perfect example of that! Not only does this help to ensure we get the best players for our system, but goes a long way toward getting us higher character young men. I wanted us to get Dickerson pretty bad. Guess when you read a player's thread for a year or more, and they are an elite prospect, you can become attached to the idea of them playing for your team. I am thankful that we have a coach that holds his players accountable in making sure we don't let the wrong people in our beloved program!

little tidbit about dickerson's visit last weekend and why cbj chose to go another direction. apparently more than one highly thought of current player went to cbj sunday night after dickerson left and told jones that they didnt believe dickerson fit the culture of this team and they also believed he was very soft. not taking a shot at landon but guys like jack jones have raised the bar for what they want in a lineman and the biggest thing is toughness and a nasty attitude inside the lines

iyam it says a lot about the culture change that cbj is always talking about and it's very real. when your star players are policing the team, making sure everyone is in line and taking time out to help recruit, thats when you know everyone is all in and something special is being built.

Weird. I was at the Nashville recruiting celebration and Butch Jones mentioned this situation, though obviously didn't name names but this is who immediately came to mind.

That certainly crosses your mind but then you see JRM and AK at the signing day studio helping recruit, taking their time to do it. Team players. Once you set a culture of team players along with winning, the egos usually get separated at some point. It's very easy to see, and coaches can deal with it.

Maybe some highly thought of posters can go to Freak and tell him about some of the posters that doesn't 't fit VN's culture and have them banned.

Here you go.

Thank you. I didn't know that was him. I remember him catching a screen and taking it to the house against UGA. Sadly the defense couldn't hold on, but he was one of my favorites as a kid.

Troy Fleming was my other favorite. Not a common pick, but I loved his size and speed, and he went on to play for the Titans.

I don't think anyone will ever forget his performance in the Swamp in 01. I know I won't.

Tennessee landed two of, if not the best pair of backs in the nation in that class, unfortunately it didn't play out as hoped

As a kid? Making me old, and I am not that old.

According to FSU writers he was one of FSUs best lineman. Think he had some injuries last year but would be a good pick up.
