'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

If you read my post again you will find nothing about "bashing" the kid. Whether you and others will admit it or not there is ample evidence of bad behavior. My post however was strictly related to those posters making excuses for his bad behavior.
No, I've seen the word "thug". There are multiple other examples throughout the thread. Basically people calling him worthless as a human because of his problems. I have no problem with anybody just posting info. Should have clarified
Read this.

Unless I say you specifically I'm probably not talking about you. It's mainly 2-3 people using derogatory terms towards this kid.

And while I trust CBJ to evaluate each recruit's character and make decisions that are best for the team; I also think discussions relating to concerns about recruits' character issues are an appropriate topic for discussion in this forum. Information posted by those who live in the community and/or have knowledge should not in my opinion be accused of "bashing" just because their info is negative. Clear rumor spreading without that knowledge is a different story. I for one like knowing about potential issues before they are Vols and pulling armed robberies with a pellet gun.

The point:

How in the hell does bashing them on a message board hold them accountable?

Stating the facts of the kid's behavior is not bashing him. Stating that he needs to get his act together is not bashing. People need to be able to tell the facts and not be intimidated by the PC police.

When your response is to my quote I am naturally going to assume you are talking about my post.

I was talking about your post. I was responding to your post. Your post was agreeing with someone who thinks it's okay to call this 16 year old a thug. Your post was saying he should be accountable, but you weren't meaning to say its okay to come on the Internet and call him a thug or whatever other things after he effs up. At least I hope not. The person you were agreeing with did just that.

In response to you I was adding discussion not just addressing you. It's difficult to tell as it only goes back one quote.

You mean well I think, but that doesn't mean everyone in here does

You can be a thug at any age. He's screwed up so many times, and has done thuggish activities. So I'm calling it like it is. He's a young man, not a little kid.

Please tell me what these people don't know. I think you might be surprised at the restraint that I know some people have used in talking about this kid. I think most of them are still hopeful for Darel.

I'm referring to the minority that doesn't use restraint. The ones that judge from behind the keyboard and then jump to the conclusion that he's a cancer.

It's fine to be skeptical due to his behavior, I am too, but in my opinion it's pretty harsh to start throwing "thug" around when he's still 15 or 16 and has a chance to get things straightened out.

I feel like I'm basically saying what OF is saying.

And I think that's awful.. Especially when I ask you what these heinous obscenities were you say "look through the thread". If they were such horrible things that a thug would do, why can't you remember them?

He's not a thug, worst case scenario he's an angry kid with no role model.

I guess I'm forgetting we live in a world where bullying is terrorism now.

Yeah I'm not the same person I was at 16, and I'm only 20. I think there was some claims in here that said he'd be lucky to not be in a gang in a few years. I just don't get the bashing.

He gets rat packs people with his buddies. I think the bullying thing has gone crazy. Especially cyber bullying, if you don't like what people say about you on facebook, do it back.

When I don't like what people say about me on Facebook I go to their house and leave my flaming initials in their yard.

I am also a sociopath.

First of all. I haven't seen anything on here that has been proven to be a fact by anyone. Because someone says they live in a town and knows someone, does not mean it to be true. If that is the case......See where I live? I eat dinner with the Hurds every evening. In fact, I am the reason Jalen is as good at football as he is. You must believe me. I live in Hendersonville and I typed it on the internet.

We could keep those presumed facts to ourselves and let people decide for themselves what they think of the young man or I guess we could continue to throw it all out here for the world to see and then accuse those, who think you are going to far with it, as being enablers as some have done.

There is someone in this very thread, posting on this very subject, who I personally feel is about the dumbest mother f'ing rock to ever type a sentence on the internet, but I'm not going to say who it is. I'll let the rest of you decide for yourself. You either know who i'm talking about or your thinking "I don't feel that way about anyone in here". You GET to decide.

This is a discussion board. Not a board for making statements based off of what someone, somewhere, may, or may not, have seen or heard about this young man. That's bashing.

If 10 people were saying the same thing, it'd be believable. It was way more than one poster saying the truth on Darel. I believe it as truth because even real sources talked about it also, not just posters.
There's also nothing wrong with bashing. Would you of told the founding fathers to stop bashing the king because it hurts his feelings?

This. As long as we don't hold people personally accountable for their actions when they are young we are setting them up to fail in life. IMO excuses for bad behavior are just excuses. I have known children of rich people who ended up in prison because they were always let get out of the consequences of bad behavior until it was too late. I've known a lot of kids born dirt poor who became outstanding successful adults. If you want to help young men succeed in life; they don't need your excuses. They need people who tell them plainly and often there is no excuse for bad behavior. After well beyond 3 decades in the criminal justice system I have some background on which to base my opinion.

I don't like to venture into too much discussion about non football topics. You mentioned rich kids going to prison and dirt poor kids being successful. Neither matter if you have strong figures in your life. I don't know anything about his family situation, but it's NOT all a 16 year old's fault if he has no support system....of course....IMO

Of course nobody should be believed just because they live in the same town, but that isn't exactly the situation here. Many of the accounts posted in here are backed up by newspaper articles (e.g., the link below about Darel being kicked off the team). Therefore, some of it is a proven fact unless you don't believe the News Sentinel.

Many of the statements are not what somebody heard but first hand accounts. Since this is a discussion board and this particular discussion is about a UT recruit, I think the information is pertinent.

Now, having said that, I totally agree there is no reason to bash a kid and call him names. I have not posted non-football items that have happened in the school that weren't relevant or I heard as a "rumor", and trust me, there is plenty of material from the rumor mill. I get the impression that everybody thinks the Powell community is out to get Darel for some reason and we post every negative item we possibly can. I truly don't get why people think that, wouldn't we want him to succeed and the majority of us do - it only helps him and Powell football. Maybe that is due to the minority that take it too far and the entire community is being lumped together.

If you have read the entire post, you will see that I for one have posted positive items I've seen from Darel as well. I hope this year is truly different from the previous and time will tell.

As I said previously, I will continue to post what I personally observe during practice and games for those that are interested in his development. Of course, you can choose to discount it or believe it, it doesn't really matter to me

This has got to be one of the craziest threads on the board that has gone so many directions. For that reason, it is certainly an entertaining thread with so many view points and opinions.

Hope you aren't referring to me in your comments above. If so, just ignore me and that solves that problem. :p

Powell standout Darel Middleton, a UT 2016 commitment, no longer part of program - GoVolsXtra Story

I wasn't referring to you and I won't ignore your post. You spent the time to think about what you were going to type and quite frankly, it was very well written.

You are not bashing a sixteen year old. Saying "Based off of recent events, there could potentially be future problems with this young man. What do you all think". (not an actual quote) Is putting the subject up for discussion. Saying "The kid is a thug" is bashing.

You my friend can discuss any difference of opinion we may have, on anything, any time you like. Good post. I even gave you like for it.
