'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

I'm sorry and some or many of you may disagree with me, but it all stems from home. As we see, his mom apparently feels entitled as well, and is probably how she raised her child. Very, very sad!

Obviously he doesn't have a strong household figure or he wouldn't be like he is. Someone would have told him that he is flushing his future down the toilet.

The government has bred a sense of entitlement for decades now, so I don't doubt that at all.

This. :good!:

I don't think that's true. I know a couple that raised 3 good kids of their own, had a crazy cousin that got knocked up by another questionable character and couldn't raise the kid, said family adopted him when he was an infant and he has gotten into 10 times the trouble the other 3 did combined. I think genetics definitely play a factor. Not that it really matter. I just really wish this kid could understand now how upset with himself he is gonna be 10 years down the road if he let's childish immature things ruin an opportunity so few have, he has the oh so popular "haters tryin to hold me down" mindset instead of the "I was blessed athletically, I can make this pay dividends for my future" mindset.

Effective yesterday afternoon at the start of practice, Darel Middleton has been excused from the Powell High School football team. Coach addressed the team immediately after an incident with Darel and stated "He will not be back." Let's recap for all of you who think Powell folks are "bashing" this kid. Darel has never completed an off season in any sport at Powell. He has made the basketball team twice and been kicked off twice by two different coaches. Powell FB has had four coaches in four years. Darel has been either suspended/kicked off or both by ALL four coaches. He showed up this year three days before the dead period begging to play FB. New coach gave him the chance. During last week's two-a-days, Darel missed Thursday and Friday to play in an AAU BBall tourney in NC. He has never participated in any mandatory team meetings, fundraisings to pay his fees, workout sessions and can't even complete the most critical of summer sessions - two-a-days. Players also report that Darel continues his habit of showing up high - when he shows up at all. So there you have it. For all of you who doubted, does this sound like a typical teenager to you?? Would you want your son doing all the right things while this kid behaves any dang way he wants? He had to attend summer school this year, is already a year behind in school so if his academics don't trip him up believe us when we tell you his behavior(s) will! His twitter now quotes "Momma said they just trying to mess up your future". This is an entitled duo who not only want but expect special treatment from everyone. I hope that has played itself out once and for all for the sake of the young men who do the right things on and off the field and in the classroom.

I'm not surprised in the least. You could tell the kid had little to no parental guidance with all the issues he had in the past. From my coaching experience there is nothing worse than idiot parents. And don't discount the lack of a father figure for many of these kids. A lot of the issues happen when there is no father involved in these kids lives and the mother doesn't bother to try and discipline their kids. Suffice to say none of their kids amounted to anything on the football field or in life. They end up a total loser just like the parent is.

Agreed that the issue most likely started at home with a lack of discipline. However, I think there are multiple factors involved with his behavior.

When he visited Bama, Saban actually spoke to him and told him to listen to and do everything your coach says and you will have a scholarship.

Parenting or family situation aside, he lacks the ability to recognize the opportunities he has been given and that it rests solely on his shoulders to sieze them. He can't seem to see beyond 5 minutes into the future. Then he blames everything that happens to him on everyone trying to mess with his future. He posted on twitter "I was just told I can't go to Powell" as if he had nothing to do with that.

There was a long and arduous debate on this thread last year about bipolar or some other disorder. I was never really in that camp and thought he was just a troubled young man that needed to mature. However, after 3 years in a row being kicked off the team, I'm beginning to wonder if there is something additional going on inside his head. The neurons certainly aren't firing on all cylinders.

It's truly sad. If you compare his situaton to Powell's Dyshawn Mobley who had a bad family situation and got into some trouble, it's night and day. Dyshawn came to the realization he could lose an opportunity and went to work hard and kept his nose clean which resulted in a D1 scholarship to Kentucky. Similar background, very different result.

Yep. It took Dy'shawn a year or so to wake up, but he finally did and he "got it". He transferred to Eastern Kentucky back in the spring, and should be one of the best running backs in the OVC. He's also going to earn his undergraduate degree in 4 years. He is a great example of how one can turn themselves around in to a productive and positive person.

Unfortunately I just don't ever see Darel ever getting it. He's already 17, so the "he's young" excuse is about to wear off. 17 is old enough to know right from wrong.

And like you, HeadFootballCoach, and a couple of others close to the situation who have posted in this thread, I am not going to point the "I told you so" finger. I have been hoping ever since the day I first saw Darel in street clothes on the sideline of an early fall practice when he first enrolled at Powell and was in the process of joining the football team I had high hopes for him. From Derek Rang to Tobi Kilgore now to the current Powell coach he has had more chances than most kids would get, and the fact that two basketball coaches also dismissed him pretty much puts to rest where the real issue is.

I honestly believe that Darel's mom has tried to keep him straight, but it's just not happened. Coaches have tried to be a positive male influence, but unfortunately other males in his life have counteracted the good that the coaches have done. His "advisers" outside of his teachers and coaches haven't given him very good advice.

The reality is that Darel isn't the only kid who has wasted the kind of God given ability that he possesses. I've seen it at Powell and at quite a few other schools in the area. We all have. Sometimes you just can't get through to kids, and this is one of those times.

Sorry if I am late to the party, but is he still a UT commit?

Neither Volquest nor InsideTennessee have him listed on their 2016 commitment list. I believe that ship sailed a long time ago.

And somebody mentioned something about Saban telling him he would have a scholly, my media contact in Tuscaloosa (a Powell grad by the way) tells me that his recruiting guys say that isn't the case.

I remember the Bama mods also shot that whole thing down pretty quick as well.

FWIW I removed him from the UT Commits Highlights sticky...so now you know its official.

SN: Get it together Darel, seems like he has a lot of potential would love for him to turn it around and make this into a positive somehow.

I have also removed him from the commit list in the '16 Current Commits/Targets thread. Double secret official now.

Word, you could see thru all the clues and 100% know that a father was missing. If he'd been around to teach him consequences and repercussions we'd have never made it to this. Mommas boy sounds like, that shat don't cut it in life or a football team.

+1

I can remember back a few years ago when Coach Helton had a similar situation like this at Central. Had this kid who had alot of potential at RB but couldnt keep his nose clean. Coach Helton gave him chance after chance but in the end he just didnt pan out. I watched Middleton play against Central last year and you could see some potential talent. But now knowing about all the trouble he's been in and that he's been dismissed, I just can't see a much of a future for this kid. Sad really.

I guess the racketeering got him in the end.

Ps- that's still DMs business, and none of yours. He is a kid and has to carve his own path. Who are we to judge him? The fact that you don't get that is astounding.

You get judged/evaluated almost every single day of life. It's not fair at all, but you're judged in America. How do you think people get fired or even go to jail. Judgement.
