'16 TN LB Tim Hart (FORMER UT commit 6/26/15)

They feel real good that we are going to close real strong. Look for the weekend list of 1/29 to continue to grow. We are looking real good for a top 10 possible top 5 finish

Who do you say we close with that could possibly push us into the Top 5?

I mean another way to read this is that Hart and Brooks have become friends with TD during the process and are just comforting a friend over the pulled offer. Doesn't mean they are going to leave in solidarity...

It is just what recruiting has become. Kids shop themselves around and coaches started doing the same. I don't like it but I understand it is the way the game of recruiting is played now.

Completely agree

Sept 1 signing day that runs the entire year is best solution

Generally in life how much stock do you put in verbal commitments? When you're actually serious about something, you put it in writing. I don't see college football as any different. The system we have in place causes these circumstances to happen.

It's like seeing this girl on the side for a while (recruitment), but until it becomes Facebook official (LOI) you're not actually dating. You're just making sure you can't find anything better. 😎

Too much coaching turnover. People would be crying about kids getting locked into to schools and all their coaches leaving.

It's fine the way it is now. Everyone involved just needs to understand the game they are playing.

Well lets do the math. Take Harts tweet and retweet and it's pretty obvious what's going on. I'm just a novice tea leaf reader and I can tell. It's dirty business but being nice will get Butch fired. Necessary evil.

If the head coach leAves allow for automatic release.

Too many kids left without the choices they deserve in this current system IMO.

Teams fill up way sooner than ever before while we are still using the old outdated rules

I say we close with Hill,Corley,Warrior and one of either Brown or Hardiman. Staff has really turned their focus toward those core of players. Also look for some late offers to continue to go out on the offensive line. Look for others to be told to look elsewhere as well. We are recruiting at a fever pitch and if everything lines up we could have a monster finish

They're hard after another DE too apparently

Hart is being recruited over. It happens. Brooks they are still mulling over.

Does this same process happen at other major programs? Is the staff surprising themselves or were these kids simply an insurance policy?

You can either have a team that is very successful in recruiting, or you can have a team that honors all commitments.

Can't have it both ways.

Yes...no

All good recruiting schools do this

Our staff offer kids early that they see potential in. Some of those guys commit and the staff accepts. Unfortunately, some of those kids don't progress as the coaches saw in their potential. Some do (Blakey, Christmas)

Happens everywhere. If I had to say I say they took some kids early on and once they big time prospects starting warming up more and more to us these kids were cut loose. It is a dirty game but not getting the best at every positions is not what brings you home the hardware. The one thing about this staff is they are extremely confident and the kids like that but they are also extremely personable and easy to talk to as well

Yep. I don't get the whole "don't accept commitments if you're not going to honor them" thing.

I suppose people would rather us go to a system of no verbal commitments....everybody announces on the same day....and every school just gets what they get?

The whole purpose of recruiting is to put together the best team you as a coach feel you can get. If that means dropping someone, because you feel you have someone better, then so be it. My guess is that this has happened forever, it just wasn't public knowledge until recent years...with the expansion of multimedia outlets.

How do you reconcile that with the fluid nature of coaching hires/fires? The February signing day is put in place to circumvent that problem.

Free release from NLI if HC leaves

Only for year they sign

I have never seen a report of CMR doing it at Georgia.

Has he?

He has every schoolittle does. It was 3 or 4 years ago one went down bad in particular and coaches were not even allowed at the school it took year half to get where coaches could even step footo at school. It happens. When u r paid 4 miles a year to win big and given a short leash to produce or be fored. Come on guys u can't want national titles and not be a little messy
