'16 TN WR Nate Johnson

I wouldn't say 10x the passer. He had a better play caller and WRs. Also people are loving on Ainge but forget how he threw the SECCG away.

10x the passer was just some intended hyperbole, but suffice to say, I think much more highly of Clausen than Dobbs as a passer, and I don't think it's very close either.

As for better personnel (WRs and TEs), Clausen helped to highlight their abilities. Give Dobbs those same guys, and I think his lack of polish as a downfield passer (touch and accuracy) hamstrings their skills.

Play-caller? You aren't going to try and praise the virtues of Randy Sanders as a play-caller, are you? If he's at all better than DeBord, the difference is negligible.

I'll make a strong case for Clausen over Dobbs, but I won't attempt the same for Ainge. I think that comparison is much closer. The comment I took most exception with was your claim that Dobbs over Clausen was the difference in the 2001 SEC Championship Game.

I think Dobbs takes those teams over the top personally. But I'm done with it. You give Dobbs good WRs and lets see what happens.

One game hardly trumps the outstanding 2 year run he had as a junior and senior. Look at his stats, his avg yds per attempt, his completion %, his TD to int ratio.

Ainge also had a stronger, more accurate arm.

I think you'd have a point if Clausen threw 3 picks and 150 yds on less than 50% passing in that game, but he was nearly flawless in the biggest game of the season on a team that finished 11-2 and then followed it up annihilating Michigan in the Citrus bowl. Not sure how Dobbs, a much lesser passer in an offense tailored to a drop-back QB, improves on that.

Agree to disagree.

Kinda like the Falcon receivers were better for Ryan than they were for Vick?

Matt Ryan performs extremely poorly with what he has. Julio Jones is arguably the best or a top 3 receiver in the league and you never know when he is going to have a good game. I will be surprised to see Ryan in Atlanta much longer.

Nah Vick was a clown. But the play calls are conservative until we're behind then they ask Dobbs to pass. Somehow he delivers when that happens. 😁 SCAR 2014 and Georgia 2015

Ryan has steadily declined the last couple, but I'm referring to the common receivers. In his last (scandal free) season, Vick pined over Marvin Harrison and posited that if he had a good receiver his stats would be over the roof. First season post Vick, Roddy White had that type of season...who knew? :dunno: Point? QBs have a big impact on how good the WRs perform

He was clutch in both...remembered he was one miracle Josh Smith catch/TD from being horrible in the Georgia game. Sometimes QBs need that kind of luck to put things together. Tom Brady without "the tuck" might've gone the other way. I just haven't noted that capability every game. They really tried to make that work against Arkansas and he was less than mediocre.

Remember how his WRs dropped his TD passes early in the game? Jennings and Wolf dropped absolute strikes. He had a big run to set us up at the 1 where Hurd fumbled. Come on now man you were watching the game. He started missing some being frustrated but the WRs dropped a lot of passes early in that game. They don't get separation consistently. That's not on Dobbs at all.

If WR is a current position of weakness it's not for a lack of talent. I think it involves several other factors, only one of which is Dobbs' inaccuracy issues.

Please tell me about all these talented receivers? Pretty much the only guys who have been healthy all year are Malone, Smith, and Pearson. Malone looks good running against air but the kid drops too many passes. Pearson caught on late but was MIA to start the year. And Josh Smith was probably our best receiver this year. And the fact he was the best should tell you how bad this group performed.

On paper in the preseason the group looked talented. Till injuries and dissmissals took affect. North has been hurt all year. Pig was dismissed. Preston is a true freshmen coming off an ACL. Jennings is a kid who converted from QB.

So please tell me who are all the talented receivers Dobbs had this season?

Meh.....it needed to be said, so Sanddune said it.

Other dude just post sh** to get responses from people. He really doesn't have a clue about what he's talking about.

The guy said Dobbs is our best QB and should be playing but he doesn't think Dormady is far off from being a good SEC QB. How's that him regurgitating what others say and why do you have to be at practice to see that? Anyone who has seen Dormady in mop up duty can see he has all the tools to be successful. I don't know how that elicited the response that he received.

Yeah I watched him panic versus North Texas when pressure flashed. Dobbs has had elite level games in the SEC. Yeah you can keep hating but the proof is in the pudding. I don't know of a QB I'd take over him in the country. Dude is special and will be better if he can get a consistent set of WRs to throw to.

I'd take Dak over Dobbs in a heartbeat just in our own conference.

Yes...I remember DROPS...they're frustrating...and they HAPPEN! Good to great passers throw the same pass to the same receiver and dare him to drop it. And Dobbs is a little too jiggly with the ball to worry about the ONCE IN A BLUE MOON Hurd fumble. Throw these hack receivers open and let the SEPARATION work itself out.

We have very talented receivers, you shouldn't question their talent. You should question Coach Azzani about why their not producing the way they should be.

The pick he threw the WR just let the DB whoop him for the ball. He threw them open and they dropped his passes. And I'd love to see the dude with Croom, Howard, and North all year instead of Freshmen, Pearson, and Smith. Only dudes that caught passes from him before the year that played a lot were Wolf, Malone, and Pearson. Does that not factor into anything? Don't QBs need WRs they can trust to be at certain spots on certain routes? Under Fulmer WRs consistently ran routes at the right depth. Even under Chaney they did as well. Our guys now are consistently on the wrong page. I watched a play versus Kentucky where the WR ran his route on 3rd and 12 4 yards pass the sticks. Dobbs threw directly to the sticks. Our fans dogged Dobbs but in obvious pass situations our WRs have got to be better and faster into their routes. That has a lot to do with bad WR coaching. And players not understanding where to be in certain situations.

Dak is good but he'll turn the ball over. Give me Dobbs with a competent play caller.

How many fumbles did they have respectively?

Cause Dak threw less interceptions in 120 more attempts than Dobbs. Dak throws an INT every 51 attempts, Dobbs every 36 attempts. Both probably fumble more than is ideal.
