'17 FL TE James Brown (UT signee)

Isn't this kid committed to us or did I miss something? Doesn't have UT commit in his title and not listed on the 17 commits page.

He just didn't commit. He committed on the 1st day he was offered. Needs to be updated in the thread title by the mods. Thanks!

This kid looks extremely athletic in his HUDL video. He took some direct snaps and he ran and threw the ball effectively from the QB position. Plus he ran some nice seam routes and looked effective in pass pro and downfield blocking. I hate to lose Chase but this kid looks to be a very efficient TE prospect and he is still learning the position. Maybe with a more efficient pass game next year we will utilize the TE and the middle of the field better.

Great post glicht. :good!:

On top of what you posted Brown is the only TE we have committed for 2017. Bumphus will be moved to DE as a pass rusher. Rogers has now de-committed. He would be the only TE that we would have unless we get Tre' McKitty now who is already committed with Oregon but grumblings are he's not happy with that choice.

There are also rumors that a TE is leaving the UT team after the season. If I had to guess it would probably be Jakob Johnson. That means we need to get another TE hopefully signed for the 2017 class too. I can't blame Johnson if he wants to leave but I never understood the move from LB to TE for him in the 1st place. Thanks!

Jakob didn't play well at LB...so they moved him.

I know that butcha but what has moving him to TE done for him? I've already asked you this once. This is probably why he's leaving. He's not being played in the right position & also not being coached up right anyhow.

They tried to move him to a position in which he could be productive. If that proves not to be TE, then it's ANOTHER position he wasn't adept at. Sometimes players don't measure up. He wouldn't be in the LB rotation, so less to fret over.

He wasn't a good LB. Might be decent at TE, but there are better on the team.

What position is the right one Tony?

According to whom?

Me & about 100,000+ fans! :p:)

That's not my job to determine what's the best position for him. I just know he was moved to TE where he didn't even contribute at all but at least got a start at LB even though it wasn't a great one.

He was recruited as a LB so I'm thinking that's his best shot on this team is LB but he's probably gone anyhow so we won't be talking about it anymore in the future.

How do you know that? People get recruited for positions every year, and then get moved to a different position when they get here.

So 100,000 people have confirmed your opinion that Jakob wasn't coached correctly?

But you said this....

Opinion guys like like the rest of you. That's what this place is about right? We all share our opinions & that's what I did. The kid has done nothing since he's been here & he was a 3 * LB coming out of high school. Tell me something hasn't been done right with him? :dunno:

Follow up on previous post. Folger has played in three games in five years. No stats in the first two games. The third game (TTU this year) 3 tackles (1 solo, 2 assts) with one being a TFL.

Way to finish your career at UT Mr. Folger. I'm glad you are a VFL. :hi:

You're right but Johnson was supposed to end up being a solid LB. Now, what's your opinion where things went wrong with him? Do you think it's coaching or changing of the position that's had more to do with it?

Just asking for your opinion & a nice discussion here. In all fairness, Alexis Johnson has been hurt most of the year & also the suspension that was up in the air as well. Thanks buddy.

Why was he "supposed to end up being a solid LB"? As you previously posted, he was a 3 star recruit...you among others talk about the need to recruit higher rated prospects. Maybe this one fits your narrative on that subject. Instead of "coaching" or "changing of position" leading to his relative nonproductivity...maybe he's NOT THAT GOOD? :dunno: Let the debate.

My opinion is that he just didn't pan out at LB. It happens. It is also common practice to move guys that aren't doing as well as was thought they were going to on the DL to the OL. Most of the ones that don't cut it "transfer", the ones the coaches think could still help out somewhere else get moved to another position. I bet it happens on every team in the country.

Rather than getting rid of him, they decided to try him at another position. He is athletic and does a great job on special teams.

Jakob Johnson was very much a huge project from the beginning and he just hasn't made the transition to big-time D1 college football from European HS ball. In hindsight, it was always a long shot that he'd become the star Tommy Thigpen would've had us believe he was destined to become.

It's certainly debatable where he should play. Like I said, I don't know the answer to that question. You know what else maybe the coaches don't even know the answer. A 3* recruit isn't certainly a guarantee to become a solid player. I think he's gone & we won't be talking/debating about him on our Vols pretty soon.

Good example of your false posting. Just throw out something and hope your right in order to look like you know what your talking about.
