Those problems should be obvious. It's like some of you are oblivious about the problems on the defensive side of the ball

You take people not incessantly pointing out the obvious as being oblivious. You do not have to be the crusader, we get it.

Ill give you 3 of those...higgins, phillips and stevens. Unfortunately i dont judge a class based on what zip code a kid has.

Think his point, in particular, was 'in state' recruiting, not overall..

What's the point of *****ing about it on here? If they don't make changes he will be gone there is no more leeway and butch knows that he is not stupid

If they get us unicorn and lollipop coach worshippers on board, we're more apt to tell the new AD and we can fire Butch. Because their demands haven't worked. Hence the constant sales pitch. :)

Tee Higgins out of your examples. Eze was recruited but we landed two in-state OTs better. And Stevens was never coming here. One failure...Higgins.

So all the guys in here last year saying "don't worry about the average 2016 class, the state is loaded in 2017, just wanted ...... and we have a great chance to be the #1 or #2 class in the country when we load up on Tennessee talent next year"..... they were really saying the only 3 players that mattered were Smith, Chandler and Higgins?..... we didn't want/need anybody else from the great talent in Tennessee 2017?

I'm not saying we had to get em all, that was both unrealistic and not necessarily needed or desired. But I do believe we've fallen well short of what we needed. I think we needed to add Higgins, Stevens and Phillips, perhaps even Hayden, to Smith, Chandler and Gray for this class to have met in-state recruiting expectations. Get 6-7 of the top 10, not just 3 of them. Jmo.

The 2016 class was a very good class.

We got two of my top wants in the state. Gray was wanted by everyone and I hope he proves why. Theo Jackson and Bumphus made us filthy. Calbert is as good or better than Eze. We all wanted Higgins and Stevens...not a failure because we didn't land them.

I know, my arguement is in state recruiting is overblown by a mile but we have been down that road.

I agree that it's overblown IF you get equivalent talent from out of state..

The 2016 class was a very good class.

It was good, #14/15 in the country, pretty average, 8th in the SEC, won't know how good it is for awhile yet.....not many from the class contributed much of anything last year.

You surely don't dispute the general thought last year that so many were saying, "patience, don't worry about the average 2016 class, we're gonna mop up due to the ridiculous amount of top in-state talent in 2017". You recall that, right?

You're preaching to the choir.. We had some misses in state but I never said in state recruiting was a failure..

I recall it but i wasnt in that camp.

So that's it? "Ish happens" in year 4 when you were odds-on favorite but failed badly when you lost to two SECe bottom-dwellers and it's "oh well, that's life", it's no problem, everything's great in Knoxville? So what happens if we "move on" and Jones leads us to 7-5 or worse in 2017.....we still saying "meh, it's all good, just move on"?

Lol

Edit: We don't need to talk about USC and Vanderbilt so much. I think that we will be much better next year. Nobody is ok with losing. But I can't betray my intellect and say those two losses were based only on coaching when a good portion of important players were out hurt. That's not an excuse.

I wasn't trying to demean someone's concerns. I apologize if that is what it seemed like I was doing.

It was the prevailing, overwhelming theme in the recruiting forum. But now, there's a ton of backing and filling going on.

I'm thrilled with in-state players Smith, Chandler and Gray. But those 3 were hardly the only 3 guys we wanted and in no way have we met expectations with our in-state haul.

Im not a believer in in state recruiting and that has been proven here for many years. Im a believer in getting the best regardless.

We didn't want Richardson...we didn't want Rodgers and (for disputable reasons) the same for Phillips. So the "misses" are Stevens and Higgins. Just not feeling the FAILURE.
