And the vast majority of their players never qualified to play football at any level.
As good of a coach as Benny Monroe was, he cared little about the academic progress of his kids.
Chattanooga got bigger and Knoxville and north Ga got closer apparently.What happened to Cleveland's program / all that talent from that area...? I never hear anything about them anymore. Tony Styles was another one who was a big-time recruit who never could get the grade thing worked out. Throughout the 90's they were pumping out great teams and especially great athletes / prospects and now seemingly nothing...

I've saved the newspaper articles from the day after signing day from the early 90's till everything got on-line around 2000. This was from the Chattanooga TFP Thursday, February 2, 1995;
"AL WILSON (6-2, 212) Jackson Defensive Back
His 4.32 40 speed has the Central-Merry running back/defender among nation's top players, specifically top five by Nationl BlueChips ... Considered himself more of a blocking back than runner but ran for 1.160 yards and 15 touchdons on 97 carries ... Also played some noseguard on occasion ... Had 163 tackles in senior season plus three fumbles caused and one fumble recovery ... Is state's defending shot put champion ... Picked Vols over Notre Dame, Illinois ... Academically qualified."
Like Buchna, I don't recall the star ratings until the internet became popular. Before then a few services would put out top 100 list in the south and nation wide. Could have been more out there but things weren't so accessible as they are today.[/QCentral
Wow, I knew big Al was fast but i didnt know he was 4.32 fast. Thats insane.

Me neither. I knew he clocked a 4.5 at the NFL Combine, but he had a few more pounds of muscle on him.

saw him throughout HS and he was nowhere near that fast. He was plenty fast but that time was just like most of the times posted for recruits. His claim to fame in HS was that he hit everything that moved and liked it. In his interview with the local TV station on signing day the reporter asked Al what he wanted to do when he got to UT and he said "I just want to run through the T and hit somebody".
After 11 games Page has 132 tackles, 21 TFL & 2 sacks. He's also returned a fumble, an INT & a punt for TDs.
Just surprised he only has 2 sacks though.
Do not get me wrong his stats are impressive, just weird that the sack total is not higher with that many tfl.
