'17 IN QB Hunter Johnson (Former UT Commit 8/23/15) (Clemson commit)

1. Butch is the best recruiter. It doesn't get much better than him. Once he gets a national title, or sec championship getting a top 5 class becomes much easier. Saban recruits good because he has multiple championships. 2. You can not sign over 25 players every year. He front loaded his classes because Tennessee was Vanderbilt talent wise before butch got here. the rebuilding he is doing is phenomenal.

The Gainesville lawn mower.

Preach it brother.

You do know Mckenzie(legacy) was the sole reason Kirkland committed, and the other 3 were in-state players.

Why is the "in state" thing even an issue? Of course in years when Tennessee has a strong pool of talent in state we will ultimately have more in state players sign with us. News flash: we recruit good players!

Who the hell cares? Why does it matter? Your insistence that Butch deserves no credit for signing quality in-state players is ridiculous. And no, we don't know that McKenzie was the sole reason that Kirkland chose Tennessee and neither do you. I doubt he would want it getting around that his sole reason for a picking which college to attend was another young man.

If Butch was as awesome as everyone thinks, this class would have Hardman, Kyle Davis, Holyfield, etc. already locked up.

The perfect storm ( legacies, rare year of instate talent) made Butch look Saban-esque.

Tuttle, Abernathy, Kamara, Pearson, Preston Williams, Sapp, McDowell, Dormady, Jones......not legacies, out of state guys. You're reaching and you're letting your Butch hate show too much if you want to make a valid argument.

2 or 3 years ago UGA signed 2 or 3 of the top 20 players in Georgia. It's not that easy to just say that you automatically get all in state guys.

I'm just surprised so many have unfailing confidence in Butch after the Florida and Oklahoma games, plus the recruiting this year..

I wouldn't call it unfailing confidence, but I do feel he has earned the respect of most vol fans. Our record has improved every year since he arrived, and that includes the near misses you have mentioned. We've had more season ending injuries this year than any other team I can think of, and we are still bowling on Jan 1st. Don't know what it's going to take to satisfy some people. Even Saban got beat by a nobody his first year at BAMA, guess he should have been canned for losing that game, amirite?

Before we criticize this year's recruiting, why don't we wait until we know how it turns out, you know NSD?

I totally agree, so our rating should be much higher than a class of 30. Butch should be cherry picking players. Do you think he's been able to cherry pick?

I think he took commits from players early on that he shouldn't have, which is why TD and Okonya had their scholarships pulled. He's doing the same thing he did each of the last few years.

I'm not going to pretend that the last week has been all fine and dandy. Recruiting has slowed, but I think we will end strong, with our average ranking being even higher than it is now as we drop our lower ranked commits and pull in higher rated ones.

I'd say QD is a split between Dobbs and Manning. Just enough of a threat.

I think after Dobbs' last year, the OL will be far enough along development wise to allow a QB like Dormady to play his game and not hurt the run one bit. He will have time enough to sit in the pocket and tear apart a secondary.

Anyone that thinks Dormady will ever take a meaningful snap in Orange is a DUCK!

When he committed, I was worried that we would lose JG. I think JG fits our system perfectly. I would be way more upset if we lost JG

I thought he was the man last year, but when you take a step back and see all of the favorable circumstances he had, it'll be hard to replicate that every year.

Tennessee isn't like Georgia and Florida when it comes to in-state recruiting.

I might take off work for NSD 2016. This is shaping up to be a wild finish. The roller coaster just dipped get ready for the ascent. Johnson saw the competition ahead and an easier path to starting job at clemson for 2017.

Can you please prove your statement about Kirkland and KM?

I'm saying that 9 times out of 10, Saban and other proven coaches will beat him for a recruit with no affiliation to either school. Why? Because Saban has proven to be a winner. Some confidence was lost in Butch after the OU and UF games. Recruits see that and pay attention to it.

I can't help but think Dabo put HJ up to taking the visit this weekend just to recruit Rogers and Higgins.

Scumbag.

Kid was afraid of JG and didn't want to sit the bench. Don't blame him. Adios.

Clemson has two 4* QB's in addition to Watson who could still be there in 2017 (though unlikely) "ahead" of him. It's not like we're the only ones with solid QB's on the roster. And few schools skip a QB class, so most QB's will always have someone a year ahead of them.
