'17 JUCO CB Keisean Nixon (South Carolina Commit 12/14/2016)

I think we absolutely need an influx of new talent at CB regardless of coaching/technical deficiencies.

Even if Mosely and co. Have break out years, it's pretty barren behind (and including) them.

Are the guys on the roster that we honestly think can take a teams #1 and contain/shut them down

Byrd would be my thought but he's being used as a satellite player on Offense

We have enough talent over there to field a good secondary next year. Some 3* juco wasn't the make or break player that you are making it.

It is very possible this kid could have been told we were taking another DB and then he pulled the trigger early to another school than expected.

Sitting around waiting to point out failures by a coach is a miserable way to "enjoy" being a fan of the football program.

You think I get Joy out of our failures? Certainly your joking. I'm in agony watching what this program has turned in to

I think you, like many, sit around waiting to point out failures. Many times even when they aren't failures.

Right now it has "turned into" the best it has been in almost a decade. Sad but true.

Turned into? I want the glory days of the 80s, 90s, and early 00s back, too, but at least the past 2 years have been a hell of a lot better than the previous 8.

I don't think Corker is a back-up plan. New coaching at the position wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Can't understand why you people think we are getting someone better every time a recruit decommits or picks another school. Schools have been negative recruiting Butch since the 4 blown losses in 15. Now this year was just a reassurance to the recruits that Butch can't get it done. All Butch had to do was prove himself on the field this year, and win the easy east.

Nah. I don't. When we are doing things properly I am the first guy in here hooting and hollering.
The disconcerting to me is the portion of us who seem cool with this period of Vol football actually being good.

You can be satisfied or happy with "this portion" of the decade that's on you as an individual.
we underachieved on many levels on the field and on the sideline and in the coaching box.
You will never ever read or hear me say I'm happy with what's going on when we lose games the way we have these last two years

I don't think many on here are happy or satisfied but complaining about it is easy and worthless and doesn't change anything. We all could do that but the intelligent ones would rather live happy lives and keep perspective.

I'm not happy with 8-4 this year.

But I'm not inventing new things to be upset about. That's the difference.

What have I invented?
Did we not turn down a young commit and turn our attention to Nixon? Did we not swing and miss on Nixon?

We cut the Cotman kid. I do not believe it was directly related to Nixon specifically. I don't know why you are so hung up on the Cotman kid. Seemed pretty obvious we parted ways with the kid by choice. In other words, the staff didn't think he was that good.

I'm not sure that we whiffed on Nixon. If we miss on Corker as well then you could say we missed on them both.

Callahan put in a crystal ball to the Vols for Corker this morning.

Maybe Nixon abruptly changed his commitment date and committed to what was seemingly his 2nd choice because he got word Corker was jumping on board with the Vols.

Doesn't really matter because I don't really care if we land a 3* juco db. Just another body with a small % chance of working out based on our history of juco db's. Last one I remember working out was Julian Battle.

Even if you think we whiffed on Nixon, it's not the failure you are making it out to be. Who freakin cares? It's a 3* juco db who popped up on our radar like 2 weeks ago.

Callahan also said Nixon was one our top 10 targets though. If we get Corker, we are looking good. If not, it'll be very disappointing.

I was never for a juco DB. Never.
They rarely work out.
Yes I'm hung up on Cotman bc I feel like he's a better prospect than this guy is.

And the two are related bc the staff told cotman they were moving on from him in order to get a juco CB bc they needed immediate help.

I'd argue that more Freshman CBs find success than JuCo Transfer CBs do.

That's where my issue is with this failure (perceived or REAL depending on perspective) It's everything about this kids recruitment and losing an excellent Athlete in Cotman

Wow wow wow Muschamp is Butch's daddy for real. Sheep will disagree!!

Lmao I said when he went to USC he would be a problem for us. They guy knows defense and recruit well. Having said that, he got fired at Florida and I would remind recruits of his record. Butch has a much better record.

Yeah I didn't realize Cotman was a espn top 300 player

I think Labruzza and Corker would make a good pair of CB talents in this class. There are 2 others that I don't know much about already committed. Also, per 247, Cotman was projected to play WR or RB at UT, so I am not really sure how Nixon and Cotman are connected.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Cotman had been committed to Tennessee since July. He's ranked in the nation's No. 278 overall prospect and No. 16 athlete in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class. He was projected to play running back or wide receiver for Tennessee.

- 247 (11/29)

And you and I both know (as does the UT coaching staff) that a HS DB has just as much of a chance of helping immediately as a juco DB would.

The story they gave (or the story that Cotman is telling) is bogus.

That's why they aren't related. The juco DB story never made any sense. Cotman would have been better off just saying he decommitted from us just like every other kid does when they get the git shirt.

HE never mentioned JUCO and the staff sure as hell didn't! (Against the rules). Some of you guys took that leap on your own because Nixon got an offer around the same timeline.

"Basically, they want experienced players instead of starting over with freshmen," Cotman told Scout when asked about his de-commitment from Butch Jones' program. "I'm good. I just know there's something better out there for me."

Scout

"Experienced" doesn't scream JUCO. It points to experience at the POSITION.

Callahan stated multiple times that Cotman was a mutual parting of ways, and he also alluded to making room for down the stretch when discussing Cotman. We were at around 25 commitments at the time of his de-commitment, and the 247 guys as well as the VQ folks seem to think the class will be between 25-28.

Bingo. Much ado about nothing.

So when Moore who decommitted from SC commits to the Vols in a few weeks, what then?

Video footage of their arguments colliding.

Cotman was salty. That doesn't sound mutual.

Do you know this kid or something?
