'17 TN ATH Jacoby Stevens (LSU commit)

Wisdom: the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement

Vindictive: having or showing a strong or unreasoning desire for revenge.

Calling a 17 year old a jerk and suggesting he be barred from an on campus event with his team because he chose another school and wants good recruits to join him seems more like the latter than the former.

You mean personal like calling a teenager a jerk and equating him to a pathogen? I think the crow may be calling the raven black here...

You are having an actual interaction on this board with him. That is person to person communication. Therefore it is personal between you and him. He's a minister and you have shown distain toward Christianity in the off topic thread. You are making it personal and somewhat of an attack. Why not stop since you were asked nicely? You like being a message board bully I guess. Quite pathetic in your actions in my opinion.

Agree with Jacket ... enough of making this personal with Ulysses ... sheesh.

Goodness.

Hey coach, you guys can scrimmage here but that kid isn't allowed.

Yeah, go over real well.

I think if it's part of a team activity it's fine i.e. the scrimmage, but I wouldn't allow him on campus individually. I mean if it sucks over there on the Hill so bad, why would he want to be there?

It at depends too on what your definition of "negative recruiting" is. If he's selling the virtues of Clemson that's one thing, but if he's disrespecting the Vols that's another thing and he shouldn't be coming around. JMO

There are reports that AR is negatively recruiting against UT. I am a Volunteer fan, that makes him a jerk in my opinion. Why would you let a kid come on your campus, and actively negative recruit against you? It is one thing to want somebody to come play with you, and talk about how great Clemson is, but it is another for him to dog out UT. It is not a good situation.

He may be a jerk but you don't single out any kid out for it if you are big time program, that is just silly. UT football is bigger than any 17-18 year old kid so its business as usual for any scrimmage or camp. Now do you invite him to visit on a big recruiting weekend towards NDS? Probably not but in that situation it makes sense.

True and if you are a recruit you never know what the future holds. Not smart to burn any bridge. Injuries happen and all of the sudden you are left with few options thanks to those bridges.

No way UT gets into a public shouting match with a 17 year old kid. I hope he stays healthy and has a great career.

Roll on. Recruiting is rough sometimes.

Now this thread is about JaCoby who happens to be a very classy kid. He deserves a lot of praise how he handles the pressures of recruiting.

I guess you are right, but I can not see anything good or positive coming from him being there tearing down UT.

I agree with this. You can't tell him he can't come with his team. But, if negative recruiting against you, then most certainly can restrict access for any other non Knox Cath events.

Was Preston Williams a jerk for doing it at Auburn? Probably, but these are still kids. Send them on their way but can't banned their team unless you never want to get another player from that team. He is not a jerk but his behavior is. We as a fan base need to handle it better than Auburn or the Dawgs. Don't invite him on campus and move on to others.

1. Person to person communication doesn't necessarily make something "personal" in the way he meant it. My point was that there was hypocrisy in his statement.

2. I don't have disdain for Christianity. I have different opinions than many on this board that I've voiced in the off topic thread, but I'm not disdainful. Some people may feel threatened by differing opinions and see them as disdainful (this seems especially prevalent among evangelical Protestants for some reason), but that doesn't make it disdainful. Ulysses faith wasn't the issue. It doesn't matter if he's a preacher, priest, monk, rabbi, politician, community organizer, etc. Hearing someone in a community leadership position endorse petty vindictiveness is unsettling.

3. Don't you think bullying is a little strong of a term? We're all adults with an equal voice here and we can respond and defend ourselves accordingly. Saying I bullied him implies that I have some sort of power or advantage over him or that he can't defend himself. Neither of those things are true. Ulysses isn't a child and pointing out unbecoming behavior isn't bullying.

4. You're entitled to your opinion that my actions are pathetic just like I'm entitled to my opinion that insulting a teenager and endorsing him being barred from campus over message board rumors is behavior unbecoming of a community leader.

Understand and don't necessarily disagree with your reasoning. I'd only say that Butch and co are apparently being above petty kid stuff and by attending a UT camp it kinda counters his negative recruiting.

There is a difference between recruiting against and negative recruiting. It has been reported that AR is negative recruiting us which implicates he is purposefully pointing out negatives of UT to try and dissuade people from coming here.

If that is true, I wouldn't let him back on campus ever again for any reason. Nothing petty about it.

He's a HS junior. It would be a bad look, considering it was a HS scrimmage of some sort.

This is what I've been saying. That dude loves to jump me. It is not petty vindictivness. It is just common sense. Look Shiveman, This is a stupid message board, in the grand scheme of things sports are stupid distractions. Amari Rodgers may be the best guy ever, but he is an enemy to Volunteer football. I am a Vounteer fan. Why would it be ok with me for him to negative recruit, while he is on our campus? I'm sure Awwburn fans think Preston is a jerk, and I don't blame them, but he's not to me. I bet Clemson folks are eating this crap up, but they would hate anybody doing this to them. Although I doubt Dabo would let it happen, like ours do, but he might, I don't really know. I'm not derailing this thread anymore defending myself from you. How about you just ignore me, and then my blatant mistreatment of Amari Rodgers will not offend you anymore.
