“The game was crazy!,” Top247 2017 linebacker Jacob Phillips said. The in-state talent is considering the Vols, Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Oregon among others. “The fans were so into the game, I think that's what enabled them to come back.”

Yesterday was huge on multiple levels. Hope the coaches start showing this kid some love and we make a major move in this recruitment. We are paper thin at LBer.

If there was ever a atmosphere or game performance to change a recruitment it would be that one. We shall see

“It’s a great rivalry, Tennessee and Florida, and I’m in the middle of taking my visits and I’ve had a blast on them, going to different schools and seeing what they’re about, and Tennessee called me and wanted me to come to the game so I said ‘Yes,’” Phillips explained. “I haven’t been up in a while. I had kind of forgot about the whole atmosphere at Tennessee,” Phillips said. “Seeing everything kind of brought back some memories about why I liked it so much because the atmosphere is great and how into the game the fans are. You find that at different places, but it’s definitely a disturbance when all the fans are cheering and the opposing offense is on the field. I like that part.”

“Definitely in watching the game I felt like I could come in and compete with the linebackers that were on the field,” Phillips said. “Coach Thigpen assured me of that and let me know they were having to play backups. He said all the freshmen linebackers are getting some plays and they aren’t redshirting too many guys. He told me they wanted me and he talked to me about the type of defense they run.”

“You never know what happens in college football with so many different things that could happen,” Philips said. “Coaching changes could happen and it’s a long ways until February but I’m committing pretty soon. So, if anything were to happen it would have to happen pretty soon. But, I’m not sure right now on if anything will happen. I’m still a little indifferent on how I feel.”

“They invited me back. Coach asked me to come back for an official so we could come back for a few days and talk football and things like that,” Phillips said. “But, I’m pretty sure I’m going to commit sometime soon after my official visit to Texas A&M. So, the middle of October is when I’m probably going to commit.”

“I think it helps a lot. The past few years everybody has been saying Tennessee is getting better and they are going to be at the top of the East and stuff like that and they haven’t got over the hump yet,” Phillips said. “So, I think this helped a lot and they can carry a lot of momentum into the Georgia game and Alabama game. When you’re winning a lot of kids in state want to stay instate and play for Tennessee.”

Sounds like we probably missed the bus on this kid. But hey... If this team carries that second half performance into the rest of the season, anything could happen with anybody.

Sounds like he is being polite and giving the instate school the courtesy of allowing them to recruit him, but his mind seems made up. A shame.

Agree. He is definitely committing in October he says and after his Texas A&M visit. We need to beat A&M also.:)

Never underestimate a full court press from Butch and Tommy Thigpen if they truly want this kid to be a Vol. Especially after we go 15-0.

Im truly confused you have really kirkland and then a walk on yet u dont look at number 2 rated ilb in country. Is he slow laterally or in coverage
