'17 TN LB Jacob Phillips

Sapp also had the frame to put on a good amount of weight. I'm not just talking about the kids' listed weight coming out of HS as "size."

And to the comment above about blaming a coach - I'm not saying our LB's haven't been coached well. I'm talking about recruiting.

I understand. The point is that they recruited a lighter guy and bulked him up for speed. But most players aren't going to lose weight in college unless you are a lineman. Kirkland is listed on UT's site as 230. Maybe Phillips can stay at 235 or maybe he adds weight and strength and gets to 250. I think OU has run some 3-4, so his 2 finalists run a 3-4 scheme.

He didn't move him. Shoop did.
He was a starter for him last year at one point. No way Tommy moves him

How much would of Bituli and Smith helped us saturday?

Instead we trot out a defense geared to stop the pass against a run heavy team...result...400 yards rushing...

Shoop is doing some weird stuff right now.
Please tell the rest of VN who this DL has to stop the run besides DB and Tuttle?

Danny O? Johnson? McKenzie? How bad is Vickers injury? Picou was undersized from the get go......???.......

For as cocky and opinionated as you are, you don't really seem to know what you're talking about.

Johnson may be one.

The Vonn Bell thing had to do with family benefits in which the Clean Up man aka Dooley wasn'twilling to do. Why I have no clue, but he refused. Pat Willis was left behind for Daniel Brooks who was supposed to be a phenom but couldn't stop fighting and having issues, R.I.P love me some D-Block. But yeah everyone misses on some to be exact. I'll be honest though I think this miss has something to do with Crabtree at Beech more than the staff missing. There were some personal issues with him playing his son in front of Jacob which led to Jacob transferring to East. Once he transferred there was rumors of him spreading bad rumors of Jacob being soft and not that good, but it all came out that was not the case in the end.

I wasn't going to say anything because I still have kids at Beech, but you are spot on about Crabtree. I know for a fact that he told the kids on the team last year that is why Jacob left. The guy is a major tool and has hurt many kids when it comes to recruiting. He wasn't even going to start Jalen Hurd his junior year but the kid in front of him got suspended from the team. Major tool!

I'm not at practices so I tend not to second guess the coaches, but I do think that Austin Smith and Darryl Taylor both could have been very good linebackers for us. This would also allow us to run much more actual 4-3 sets. But this is the opinion of someone who is not around the program everyday or paid big bucks to make these decisions.

Your not the only one. Sometimes coaches out smart themselves or in Butchs case over analyze. For instance two straight years of toying around with the OL moving guys all over place not allowing a group gel together. That is why our OL never seems to grow. Yes you can cross train but not everybody. Pick one or two guys but he tries to do the whole OL. Mahoney even admitted it was a mistake yesterday. Sane crap with moving players around. He keeps moving them to positions that make them weaker and undersized

This isn't an attempt to have a conversation by you.

This is a completely unwarranted attempt to bait me into an argument.

Why?

I said before the game Bama would run over us if we didn't adjust our scheme (Bituli, Taylor thread)

We gave up 400 yards rushing... what do you think we were doing right?

Is it really hard to believe two men weighting 240 lbs will have more success than stopping the run than two men weighting 222 and 197?

Keep insulting me for no reason though. Hope it makes you feel better.

Not to mention... we didn't get hurt by Bama on the inside run as much as we did outside.

There was no defense on the edge. You know "run support"? 2nd level defenders. None of those guys you mentioned have to contain the edge. So why did you mention them?

You do understand what I clearly said, therefore you don't think I know what I'm talking about.

Bama brought a combined 338 more pounds to stop our rushing attack last Saturday. (Size matters thread)

UT 32 rush yards
Bama 400+ rush yards.

Nothing cocky about that.

Now id appreciate if you didn't respond back unless you actually wanted to have a discussion.

Evidently you are too young to remember when PF was the line coach and was considered to be the best one in the nation. Coach always cross trained his entire line and sometimes moved them depending on the match ups for a particular game.

Austin Smith is out with a shoulder injury and is redshirting.

Last weekends defensive performance was related to missing O'Brien (dismissed), McKenzie (out for the season) Vickers played on one leg. . Our DT's were a raw Kongbo, undersized Picou and Mixon and Tuttle.

LB's with Sapp and Reeves-Maybin out for the season, McDowell out, Kirkland out. We end up with Eliot Berry and Colton Jumper. With very little support in the middle of the line and DE's giving up the edge, the LB's were put in a difficult position.

You can blame it on coaching decisions. That is your right. But, I am afraid the issue is more execution of fundamentals against a great opponent, with essentially a spring practice 3rd team trying to play defense.

Why if Vereen couldn't handle Hurts speed did we not plug in Darrell Taylor? I bet he could've contained him.

Butch refuse to play players based off talent until forced too. It's only way the more talented player gets on field. I'd hate to imagine how long he would have took to play Barnett had there been a decent player I front of him

There's a difference between baiting and calling someone out for having nonsensical opinions.

I'm pretty sure this was the letter.

And I doubt throwing in an unhealthy Smith and a true freshman Bituli would've made much of a difference overall. Do that and Kiffin finds one way or another to attack those two anyway.

I mentioned those defensive linemen because last i heard, trotting out a defensive usually includes a DLine.

This is the cocky i'm talking about. Would you like a cookie? Jimmy Hyamms, is that you? Anybody who is anybody knows Alabama's bread and butter is the running game. They've run over everyone thus far. And you think putting in 2 inexperienced players against the #1 team could help beat them? :lolabove:
You think you know 'so much' more than anyone else.

Considering we are down to our 4th and 5th string Lb's is the only thing that matters. Also, with the up tempo Bama was running, our extremely depleted DLine and LB corps, how would have those heavier inexperienced players fared against the up tempo offense Bama implemented? Also, they have 3 solid RBs, and a DT QB. 4 running threats to keep fresh all game. We had 1 solid DT (Tuttle) and Barnett but they ran away fom him most of the time. How can you even mention DT and AS and the secret recipe? :good!:

When has UT successfully contained the edge all year? And why would you expect the 1st time for that to happen to be against the #1 team in the nation w/ 4th and 5th string LBs?

Which is exactly why i brought up the injuries of Danny O'B, KMac, Picou (undersized), Johnson hurt, Vickers hurt, etc. But you quicky dismissed my point as irrelevant to your argument then proceed to mention the difference in size between Bama's defense in comparison to ours. :whistling:

You can put me on ignore now if you don't like the truth.

yep.

Why does his thread not say Oklahoma commit btw?

Also, why do you say if he stays a commit he's an idiot?

Kilmer seems to think anyone committed to Oklahoma should reconsider because Mixon was allowed to stay at the school. If Mixon was allowed to stay, there must be a culture problem

Guessing it's because of the likely ish storm that's about to hit OUs program......good chance Stoops, members of his staff and the AD are about to be bounced. Very different situation than the one he committed to.
