'17 TN LB Jacob Phillips

No, not angry last time I checked. Do you pay attention to ye olde news, "bro"?

And please clear this up for me, Monsieur Juzunk: Are you happy that we lost out on an in-state stud LB?

Well, I have a 12 hour time difference where I live, and this thread was the first one I opened that morning, so yes, I do pay attention, and my post was before I heard the news.

And no, I am not happy about it.

I certainly think calling him "an idiot" is an over reaction.

Guessing it's because of the likely ish storm that's about to hit OUs program......good chance Stoops, members of his staff and the AD are about to be bounced. Very different situation than the one he committed to.

Exactly 0.0 % chance that happens.

You know, you're probably right given all the other similar poor decisions about similar matters/players that Stoops has made, only to never so much as be even reprimanded. Frank Shannon, Dorial Green-Beckham, Dede Westbrook....and now Mixon. So you're likely right.

I think there is a chance he could be gone depending on how much scrutiny is put on OU. I didn't think Briles would be gone either.

What Briles ignored to win games is 10x as despicable as this...with or without a video. Stoops knew there was potential fallout with this. So countenanced this as a second chance narrative and used the one year suspension as a shield. His people fought the video release to the Nth but in the end they're prepared to tread water until this subsides...and it will.

But when you couple it with the pattern he has developed in not having a care about violence against women it looks like more than just giving him a second chance. DGB, Dede Westbrook, Frank Shannon, and Justin Chaisson all have had domestic violence incidents and he just seems to not care.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind Tennessee would get the death penalty if we had done what they did. There would be outrage.

Individual second chances with a fanbase that backs the warped reasoning. They know he's not a humanitarian. They just want the wins. As long as he sells this crap this way...he'll get away with it...as long as he WINS!

A SI writer dogcussing Stoops in a recent article lumped him in with us. Nowhere close to the same...requires facts.

I said he'd be an idiot if he stayed. Sticking behind that one too. Stoops is garbage.

Correct. The Pearl and Tyndall situations vs the North Carolina, Syracuse and Louisville situations make that very, very clear.

Given the current national climate on domestic violence, especially on college campuses, im shocked this has blown over as quickly as it has. Clay Travis is the only guy I've seen really beat the drums on this and call for Stoops' firing. Clearly, nothing's gonna happen to Stoops as nobody seems to care about this after the initial shock of the video 6 days ago.

Media and the public go after those who show remorse/weakness. When you back down, they pile on harder.

Oklahoma clearly doesn't give a crap about this and so the angry mob/media move on to the next controversy they can feign outrage over.

Oklahoma doesn't have a self-mutilating media/fan base

In defense of Stoops (who I despise his condescending attitude about everything practically), the Mixon deal did occur right after the Ray Rice thing did in 2014. NFL gave Rice a two game suspension while Stoops gave Mixon a 1 yr suspension. While the media went bat**** crazy once the Rice tape was public, I believe Stoops had already given his punishment to Mixon. NFL and Goodell set the standard initially too low and Stoops went further with his.

If the same thing happened here, there wouldn't be enough bodybags for all of the victims who would lose their job.

I understand that but the "suspension" was really just a redshirt year

Did TN make him a priority?

We did then we didn't then we did again but the didn't time screwed it all up. Can apparently thank his Former HS coach for causing that mess. Been rumored that he gave less than glowing review that turned staff in another direction

I think we should blame NPA.
