'17 TN LB Jacob Phillips

Maybe recruit him as a DE.

They did, he doesn't want to play. They should give him the Jennings approach. Give him his shot at LB, and if he doesn't claim it, try him some where else or let him transfer.

Even if Darrin Kirkland Jr were in this 2017 class, I would still say recruit this kid.

I hope he doesn't go to Bama

He was a TE while at Beech but I don't think he wants to do anything but play LB now, which he has become very good at. Will probably come down to either Bama or Oklahoma

Sorry that was a joke because someone compared him to having the same size as Jalen Hurd when he'll become a freshman.

Nashville (Tenn.) East Nashville Magnet four-star linebacker Jacob Phillips racked up over 120 tackles last season as a junior and showed why he is one of the top players at his position nationally.
The 6-4, 228-pounder started his senior season off in a big way this past weekend in the, 21-14, win over Clarksville (Tenn.) Rossview.

On the night, Phillips racked up 15 tackles, three tackles for loss and one forced fumble. It's clear that another 100+ tackle season is in his future.

His loss imo.

Still hate to lose out on him, big time player:

On the recruiting trail, Phillips holds over 20 offers from many of the nation's top programs. However, he recently narrowed down his recruitment to five finalists. Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon and LSU all made the cut.

It's been sour grapes central from the start because Phillips has never really showed any real interest in the Vols since right after we offered him.

Actually he did but as the UT staff backed off and he started getting love elsewhere that changed. Can you blame him? 1st offer and getting attention and then little to no contact at all, kinda hard to blame the kid.

He's a jumpo body type.

He will get to 250 lbs quick, but the kid can move.

We're pretty solid at MLB. But i wish the staff hadn't 2nd guess themselves on him.

Bituli and Blakely are candidates for the MLB in the future I imagine.

We'll fill needa, but I would've loved for this kid to be on team 121.

I wasn't really trying to blame anybody. It's just to sad to see another in-state recruit take his talents elsewhere. Thanks!

From the few articles ive read on Phillips, he really likes OU alot. I dont know how much truth is in this, but I heard he grew up a OU fan.

Probably became a fan in Sep 2014 when OU stuff popped up randomly all over middle TN. I had literally never seen an OU decal or car tag in Spring Hill/Columbia in the year and a half I had lived there. Then the Monday after the game in Norman I saw 3 vehicles within 5 miles of my house with OU stuff.

Crunchy, Eastside and our new recruiting expert minivol all in agreement... I'll stick to staff's thoughts, seem to doing pretty good so far last 3 years...

Interesting comments from Phillips. Looks like Oregon thinks they can recruit TN now. Seems strange to me.

"Also Ugo Amadi is up there. He is from Tennessee, we used to train together, and it would be cool to play with him. Oregon is trying to recruit Tennessee more, they are showing me a lot of interest, and they are high on my list. I am excited about getting up there."
