I'm in the championships are built in the trenches camp. Want them both and expect the staff to land them both.
Championships ARE built in the trenches. Especially in the SEC, where the defensive line play is the best in the nation, and the QB play, quite frankly, isn't.
We can afford to lose Tee. He's an excellent athlete out there on the edge, and it would hurt to lose a hometown kid.
But this Smith kid is a transcendent talent at LT. The kind of kid your whole offense revolves around. Just speaking in terms of talent, this kid belongs in the conversation with Laremy Tunsil and Cam Robinson.
So the debate really isn't one. The more important player is Smith. No question.
Why?
I think when it's top talent( Higgins, Smith, Stevens, Chandler) it is great to keep top talent home, but if you are telling me to decide between a three star prospect from Knoxville or a three star from Atlanta or Virginia beach... Sorry kid from knoxville. We have really good talent in state this year which is awesome, but If the staff signed a whole class of out of state kids because they thought they were better than the kids we have in state, I'll roll with the staff.
Don't agree. UT has always built their teams with out of state talent. You get the best, regardless of zip code. Most kids want to leave whatever state they are in to go to college, that's reality. I know it may be a controversial opinion but its the poorer states where the kids stay close to home, hence the LA and MS kids staying close.
