'17 TN OT Obinna Eze (Memphis commit)

I don't think you get the dynamics here. He doesn't know about programs. Just going with what he likes.

All the more reason why somebody with some knowledge needs to get in his ear and steer him to a place that's gonna be best for his career.....Memphis ain't remotely it.

No to memphis

Wouldn't be good for us

We get very few players out of the Memphis area as is, so I think the effect would be negligible.

The real talent is in the midstate these days, and Vandy is no threat to get them. We are fighting off surrounding state schools for those kids.

I'd like to see Memphis (West) and Louisville (East) join the SEC as the 15th and 16th teams. Rising football programs and established basketball programs.

Heck no. I don't even want them going to Big 12. Going to be even harder to pull kids out of Memphis. Although it's probably best for most of them to get out if they can to get away from their neighborhoods

Isn't Memphis about to do some upgrades and the possibility of big 12 makes them look better than you would think in past

I've heard Barnhart talk about this. Of the 4 top contenders to join the Big 12, he says Memphis is a distant #4.....BYU, Houston and Cincinnati much more likely. Gave his reasons....best way to sum it up is that they just generally suck.

Houston, Cincy, BYU, and SMU would make more sense to me for that league. Memphis would prob have to guarantee facility upgrades so it doesn't look like people playing in the toilet bowl

Memphis doesn't produce a whole lot of football talent anyway. A few kids a year. We will always have a good chance with the private school kids. The city kids typically bust at a higher rate than most for one reason or another. The real talent pool has shifted to the midstate. We never had much luck landing the few talented kids Memphis produces anyway, so I won't lose sleep over not getting them in the future. I'd rather them go to Memphis than Ole Miss and Alabama anyway.

Unless I am forgetting someone, Dan Williams was the last city kid we landed from Memphis that had a memorable career at Tennessee.

So if Memphis joined the SEC, what's to stop them from poaching players from the mid-state??

If the Big12 is taking a basketball school, they should go with UConn. Way better academics.

I'd take Cincy, UCF, UConn, Houston.

Memphis in the sec would Mean them being a legit threat in mid state recruiting

I don't like this whole not wanting another school from the same state in your conference because you're afraid of recruiting thing. If the school were to deserve to be in the conference then they should be in. Florida State and Clemson are the two best examples I can think of.

Memphis on the other hand is not an SEC caliber institution.

I woukd argue that Memphis is as viable an SEC member as Vandy, and maybe Kentucky.

Sure it did. Franklins success made tennessees down turn last longer

A one-year flash in the pan does not a threat make. They immediately went back to the cellar where they belong. Who did we lose to Vandy that really affected Tennessee's team outcome?

Jelks is the obvious one that comes to mind. As thin as our OL was those years he would have been a huge addition

I'll take a shot at this one. Absolutely no one.

We were bad because of Kiffin and Dooley. Franklin was able to take advantage of that. Even then though, who did he have. One WR, who's name I can't even remember anymore?

Mason has picked up one decent player (maybe), and that's because his daughter is dating him. Or at least she was at the time he signed. Would be curious to know if they still are or not.
