'17 TN OT Obinna Eze (Memphis commit)

Dont look now another CB to Memphis.

I think Tennessee is in a tough spot here. I don't think we have a ton of spots left to give for an OL. It is obvious that Trey Smith will take one of them, should he choose us and I believe it is just as obvious that Jalen McKenzie will take one, if the staff sees enough in his early season films to believe that he is healthy enough to get an offer. With his program ties, he is a take as well.

Obinna Eze is no doubt a talented OL, but he is very raw and will for sure use a redshirt year. He can still likely go to Tennessee, but he is going to have to be flexible enough to wait for a spot.

Eze is a take over McKenzie.

Eze just likes Memphis a lot.

Jelks is the obvious one that comes to mind. As thin as our OL was those years he would have been a huge addition

Jelks decision had as much to do with who Tennessee's coach was at the time as it did with an affinity for Vanderbilt. James Franklin>>>Derek Dooley. That is an indictment of Dooley, not an endorsement of Franklin.

That said, if we lose one player every four years to Vandy, we're winning.

I'll take a shot at this one. Absolutely no one.

We were bad because of Kiffin and Dooley. Franklin was able to take advantage of that. Even then though, who did he have. One WR, who's name I can't even remember anymore?

Mason has picked up one decent player (maybe), and that's because his daughter is dating him. Or at least she was at the time he signed. Would be curious to know if they still are or not.

This^^^

Butch has said numerous times he wants to sign 25 players for the 2017 class(not including walk-ons of course) so we already have 23 commits. 2 more players is all we got.

We take/get both Eze & Smith our spots are filled at 25. All the others we're recruiting are down the drain. There's still that chance Butch cuts ties with a few 2017 commits but I really don't think it will be many if any.

It would make him look pretty bad in doing so unless it's only one or two recruits to make room for a couple of 5* recruits. No way he could turn those down!

This gets really old reading this in so many threads. I know that is the way it looks but everyone knows we will get more than two more commits. Several of our current commits will go elsewhere and we will sign a top ten class.

I think I did say that Butch would release a commit or two to go elsewhere. I think you're wrong though in thinking Butch will just let a slew of current commits just leave & sign wherever they want.

This would give the media a feast on eating up Butch Jones & make him look really bad. No way he lets more than 3-5 current commits go play elsewhere. I've seen some people say it would be 10+. No flipping way!

I think it will be exactly 3-5. All of them could go anywhere they want because nobody has signed anything yet. If 5 leave, either on their own or through encouragement, that would leave us the opportunity to sign 7 more than we currently have committed come NSD. Plus a few will get bumps from their senior season and we end up with a top ten class.

I'm not going to argue with that. We could end up with a top 10 class no doubt even though all the naysayers disagree.

We could possibly end up with a top 5 class in the end. You never know! We let 3-5 players go & sign a 5* & a 4* then we might have a shot at a top 5 class but top 10 is more likely. Thanks!

You're welcome. Let me know if I can help with anything else. :p

I woukd argue that Memphis is as viable an SEC member as Vandy, and maybe Kentucky.

Umm, no

Tiger high has never been, nor will it ever be considered to be in the same galaxy as SEC worthy.

vandy was a founding member of the SEC, otherwise you are correct in regards to vandy.

AU is probably shocked at this, they were thought to have lots of traction - they have at least a few Nigerians already on the roster that he had bonded with.

Don't be surprised if he picks Memphis Mistake, then we will hear all the whiners that Butch can't out-recruit them either...
