Lots of guys have played football for a year and still manage to to see that Tennessee or Auburn or Oklahoma or wherever are better than Memphis. So you relax.

The facilities, winning tradition, SEC does not matter to this kid. His vision is beyond football, wish more would understand this. Here is an update from Scout. I wish him well. He needs to go somewhere he enjoys, he won't play for a couple years.

"I think the kind of person I am really changed the way schools have recruited me. If coaches call me and talk about how good their school is, how beautiful their campus is or something like that, without any disrespect to the coaches, I probably would not take the call the next time they called," said Eze.
"I want a coach that cares about me as a person and that wants to get to know me. All schools have great facilities and that type of stuff, but I want to play for someone who cares about me, not the football player. That is the most important thing to me.
"The coach that has shown me that he can take care of my life after football, that is where I want to be, and that is who I want to play for. I believe everything else will fall into place. I want to play for someone who is going to look out for me as the person.
"Recruiting is not about football. It is not about facilities. It is not about who has won the most. It is who has connected with me the best."-Simmons

Sounds like a young with his priorities in line and someone who knows how to use his talents to set himself up for the future. Congrats to him. Wish him the best in whichever situation he is most comfortable.

Sounds like a guy who doesn't realize that this "connecting" coach's tenure, especially at a place like Memphis, where you have to win at the perfect level- enough to keep one or two boosters happy, but not so much that the big programs come calling- probably won't outlast his.

On the one hand, that's a really refreshing approach. On the other hand, I feel a little bad for him because I think there is a pretty good chance that before he graduates the new staff at Memphis will either be fired for not continuing the success Fuente had, or, if they do manage to keep winning, they will have moved on to greener pastures. It just seems like an overly idealistic way to make such an important decision. Good luck to him though. Sounds like a really nice kid.
