'17 TN RB/CB Chase Hayden (Arkansas commit)

Question over on 247:

(original post) Out off all running backs TN is recruiting, what one is TN most likely to land..Thank You

Callahan's response:

That's obviously the big question that will go a long way toward defining Tennessee's 2017 class. The Vols need to get at least one really good running back who's ready to come in and take on a significant role right away next year. That said, Cam Akers and Ty Chandler are still the two guys at the top of their wish list, and while Tennessee is in decent shape with both of those guys — and with Akers in particular — I don't think either is anywhere close to a sure thing for the Vols. That's pretty typical when you're talking about top-100 players who are being pursued by a lot of good programs.

To answer your question, if I had to guess one running back who's most likely to be a part of Tennessee's class, I probably would go with Chase Hayden. He's a UT legacy who has been high on the Vols throughout his recruitment, their involvement with him has heated up a bit over the past couple of months, and I think they're clearly still one of the teams to beat for him. He's hoping to make a decision sometime this summer, and while Tennessee has some legitimate competition for him, it still might be tough for anyone to overtake the Vols in the end.

After winning the Division 2-A Mr. Football award, Hayden averaged 23.6 points, 2.6 rebounds & 5 assists per game on his way to being named 2-A Mr. Basketball.

He measured 5-11, 183 at The Opening New Orleans last month. While Hayden didn't have an official mark in the 40, he recorded a 4.07 shuttle, 42.0' powerball toss & a 36.5" vertical.

The best shuttle time at the combine by a RB was 4.20.
His vertical would have been good for 5th.

Could it be possible he is just not that good? I mean I know saying something like that about a guy UT is recruiting but who knows?

A lot of high level division one coaches think he's good.

Michigan
Tennessee
Arizona
South Carolina
Arkansas
Louisville
Oklahoma State
Mississippi State ...

Definitely could see all 3 coming

Already feel good about Hayden. chandler we are pushing very hard. Akers has us in his top group and some believe we lead

All 3 backs have different styles. Hayden could be a beast slot or even CB too

No question, doubt all 3 would want to come tho

That's never stopped multiple high-star running backs from committing to Alabama. Might not always work out for them, but they seem to keep committing there anyway

This guy is super talented, and those of you who think otherwise I think are wrong. Also this guy IMO is a Tennessee lock, and I think it's still possible to get chandler and Akers as well.
