'17 TX ATH KD Nixon (Former UT commit)

I suppose recruits may be buying into the notion that commitment actually means commitment there. That said, I'm a Vol. Butch could drop 10 from the class tomorrow and while I'll voice my opinion on it. I'll still be a Vol.

Or maybe having more recent success in an easier conference makes it a little easier to sell the product. Makes the whole moral superiority thing much easier when you aren't faced with the tough choices. Careful, your white privilege is showing.

This happens everywhere and is just part of the business. You spinning this as though Butch is somehow more offensive than other coaches that do the same thing means you either aren't aware of the widespread nature of the practice or you just have it out for Butch.

I think it happens elsewhere just on a much smaller scale. Like 1 a year. Maybe every other year. Only ones I've seen ALOT of it happening lately is UT and Michigan.

Good luck to him. Hopefully he is smart enough to stay far away from Baylor. No idea of the other schools pursuing him.

It's a difficult business but I respect the fact that the coaches part ways with the players in June rather than have 30 commits and cut some loose the night before signing day when the player doesn't have time to find another team.

Honest question here from reading this thread and the Hayden thread.. Some speculate that we are slow playing Hayden for bigger fish at the RB position.. But we accept a commitment from KD even though most VN opinions is that he isn't SEC caliber..

Question.. So what gives here? (other than I don't understand the recruiting game) thoughts?

If Hayden was cool with playing in the slot, I'd say take him. I think he wants to be a RB though.

Hayden vs Coleman, I'd have taken Hayden. We lose Coleman to a flip and IMO slow playing or passing on Hayden will prove to have been a mistake. JMO

Why accept a commitment from KD when the Vols seem to be in on some very good WRs.. But slow play a guy like Hayden, when RBs are needed, not to mention he can play slot? (to be honest, I don't know if they are slow playing or not, just seems to be the consensus from reading)

SIAP

We want Hayden to play more of an ATH role instead of pure RB. He wants to play RB

The funny thing is the staff liked him enough to take his commitment. The beginning of the thread swore he was the next Percy Harvin. Callahan seemed to think if he didn't decommit, he'd be dropped anyway. Kid just didn't wait for it.

As for Hayden it's just a deal where he's down the RB take board it appears. Also I'd like to think a legacy isn't one Butch would take now and then drop later. Of course, who knows. They miss on Akers or Chandler and maybe Chase is a possibility. If he's not keen on being slow played, maybe UT isn't an option for him if he's committed elsewhere.

Callahan has continued to express he thinks KD would be dropped for others after tonight.

It was a points competition. We were there. I ga e him credit for what he did well and that's what I'm supposd to do. He's not SEC caliber bottom line but I'm not going to argue with you.

Do you think the coaches taking Nixon's commit was possibly due to a lack of commitments early in the process?
