'17 VA DE Elijah Conliffe (Florida commit)

It's situations like this that make me hate the recruiting process. These kids have had years to consider their college choices and those who want to play the "control" game and wait until nsd are affecting the lives of others who have made their decision and been loyal to the school. It would serve them right for all their top choices to move on and they have to settle for a lower tiered team that still has a spot. I know that ain't happening, but it's what they deserve!
I think some of the highly sought after guys, realize they can wait until the end. I think some want to wait until coaching changes, NFL draft departures, other recruit commits, etc. shake out. A lot of moving parts.

If both Conliffe an Ray want to come, Butch should cut one of the 'diamonds in the rough' and worry more about fielding a winning program than the self proclaimed 'moral' brigade.

But what if cutting one this year cost you multiple recruits in the future?

I assume that the speculation is that Tennessee is going to take the gamble that they will either know what Ray is going to do, prior to Conliffe announcing his decision. It is a risky proposition. We could ending up missing on both.

So in my mind if they said "You have a spot but we need to know now" and he said "I don't know" so they moved on the chances of him actually coming here if we waited on him for a week are slim to none.

I thought about that too maybe they feel chances are small he signs with us

Butch is here for the next couple at the least.

Not if he fails to win at least 8. Anything less and he's done imo. Honestly, if it were up to me, he has to win the division this season to save his job. Injuries didn't cost us a trip to Atlanta in 2016, but getting out coached by South Carolina and Vanderbilt did.

If we don't win more than 7 and then keep butch, 2018 will have some bad ticket selling and apathy. Then we are likely back to square one yet again.

The problem with UT football right now, is you have folks like Jimmy Hyams who went on to the Paul Finebaum show and publicly stated that a 7-8 win season would be successful in 2017 given the strength of schedule. BS. We're good enough to beat everybody, but Bama. An overachiever could win at least 10 with our talent and schedule in 2017.

Too late and a huge long shot but you think the NY DT that is looking to go to Florida will take a look at us now?

Nvm saw he eliminated us

And sometimes it's genuinely a hard decision.

Looks like best case scenario, we get Ray and Sterling. Would also really like to add Pouncey at WR. Not sure who gets the axe though if he wants on board.

Heck yeah. Kind of like considering and choosing among several job offers. Lot's of factors to consider. Various pros/cons and potential risks among them.

Ray & Sterling are the 2 DL I think we get now. I did think we had a very good chance at getting Conliffe though. Oh well.

Are we out of it for Conliffe?

I think so unless someone who's committed takes a surprise visit somewhere this weekend and Tennessee makes some kind of move.

I think they only guy they make a spot for is Ray.
