'17 VA DE Elijah Conliffe (Florida commit)

I like our DL haul for sure. But need as much depth as we can get. Also, we need a dominant pass rusher because we will miss Barnett. I'm not sure anyone we have on the roster can do that, maybe Phillips? Ray could be that guy tho if we could get him

I would love to have him but saying dumpster fire is a bit much but with this gang you are probably right im gonna go spraypaint ray on my serta right now.

The Butch hate on here will be bad come signing day if a big fish isn't added. They're licking their chops already

Conliffe made the decision to wait. He forced Butchs hand. We cant wait this late in the game & take a chance on losing out on a player that wants to be here for someone that isnt sure.

It's situations like this that make me hate the recruiting process. These kids have had years to consider their college choices and those who want to play the "control" game and wait until nsd are affecting the lives of others who have made their decision and been loyal to the school. It would serve them right for all their top choices to move on and they have to settle for a lower tiered team that still has a spot. I know that ain't happening, but it's what they deserve!

Which is why I have no problem with us moving on. We can't be held hostage by an indecisive, or insincere, 17/18 year old.

Great. Not only are we not getting him but he will most likely be a Gator.

If Murphy and Fant are academic liabilities, one or both need to go. Murphy might be better, but he's taking an Ole Miss trip this late...

Murphy isn't visiting OM per VQ. If he was his spot would be up for grabs.

On this we agree. If a committed kid keeps visiting, he's not committed. UT has no obligation to hold a spot or honor such a "commitment". Kids play games and "reserve" spots until that dream school comes calling. I'm fine with a school pulling an offer at this late date if a kid is still visiting other schools. It's a two way street.

Man or dl haul is very good right now stargazers need to chill.

I've been vocal about liking our DL haul, but that was with the assumption we'd round it out by NSD.

I think our DL haul is good. But not closing with Conliffe, Sterling, or Ray is a failure on the recruiting trail.

That doesn't mean the class as a whole is a failure or that our DL haul is a failure. Just that not getting one of those 3 is one.

I don't really think his hand was forced. The coaches didn't have to take Palmer's commitment. They could have waited. They just didn't want to.

I'm happy to know I've found where the recruiting experts hang out. On this board are people who know how to handle the complexities of recruiting teenagers better than the coaches do. Even though CBJ has proven in the past that he knows how to do this recruiting thing, some on here know better than he does.

And what makes it even more impressive is that they don't have the info CBJ and the other coaches have. Yet they know better how to do this. They don't even have the benefit of talking to these recruits, but they know better than CBJ what they're thinking and what's been said.

Hey, don't come on here and confuse us with the facts!

What in the world is happening? Oh, let's fill up our class with 3*s with limited options and limited potential and then turn away legit 4*s with options and great potential.

They didn't turn him away. They pushed for a commitment a couple days ago and he wasn't ready to commit so he lost his spot to Palmer.

Turning him away because we don't have enough open spots in the class for him. I don't think the coaches would totally screw one of our commits over and pull their scholarship 5 days before signing day.

Even without Conliffe and Ray, UT has a good haul of D-lineman. Ones that will be Tackles and Ends. Ray would be a great cap and elevate the class overall. Adding Conliffe would be great but wouldn't elevate the class like Ray would IMO.

I agree with Swanson that Conliffe wouldn't commit and he lost his spot. If he had committed, then somebody would be complaining about not having enough receivers.

But if they did hang a kid out to dry the same ones complaining about too many 3*'s would be crying about how awful the staff was for taking an "upgrade".

We didn't turn him away, we just aren't gonna cut a kid loose in hopes that we get Conliffe. Why is that so hard to understand?

I have a feeling we take Pouncey because all of our committed WRs are not ready for the SEC next year (160 pounds or coming off injury) and miss out on all 3 of the DL :(

Yeah, it is so weird how the highest ranked recruiting class teams, purely coincidentally of course, win and/or compete for titles (Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, and FSU) and the others don't and so I keep forgetting that recruiting rankings are meaningless and I should just be happy with this class and the massive misses by the staff because 3* classes are just as good as more highly ranked classes.
