'17 VA DE Elijah Conliffe (Florida commit)

Yeah, it is so weird how the highest ranked recruiting class teams, purely coincidentally of course, win and/or compete for titles (Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, and FSU) and the others don't and so I keep forgetting that recruiting rankings are meaningless and I should just be happy with this class and the massive misses by the staff because 3* classes are just as good as more highly ranked classes.

I don't think Clemson was up there in recruiting, or am I wrong? But they did have the best QB in the country, the best WR in the country, and a good DL. That made the difference

2015 9th

I'm happy to know I've found where the recruiting experts hang out. On this board are people who know how to handle the complexities of recruiting teenagers better than the coaches do. Even though CBJ has proven in the past that he knows how to do this recruiting thing, some on here know better than he does.

And what makes it even more impressive is that they don't have the info CBJ and the other coaches have. Yet they know better how to do this. They don't even have the benefit of talking to these recruits, but they know better than CBJ what they're thinking and what's been said.

That's because we are teenagers.

Clemson Rivals:

'16: #6 (3 5* and 10 4*)
'15: #4 (3 5* and 9 4*)
'14: #14 (1 5* and 7 4*)
'13: #14 (10 4*)

Clemson is the only team with classes outside of top 10 that won a title recently. You're fooling yourself if you think recruiting like this gets us where we want to go.

Wow. That totally changed my correct perspective. Now I know I should be excited about treading water or moving backward in recruiting. Thanks for enlightening me with your third grader retort.

This is a prime example of why it's ignorant to fill up with marginal players. We should be going all out on conliffe and ray and not having to worry about numbers.

Three quarters of this class are "marginal" players by SEC standards. This had been an extremely mediocre recruiting cycle for this coaching staff.

I miss the days before recruiting rankings and sites; really before social media in general. Ah, the days before everybody was an expert and/or fortune teller knowing exactly how players would develop and how good teams would be before they ever played a down.

And most with any sense would say let's wait 3-4 years to rank a class.

We don't deal in common sense here. VN currency is certainties.

There are some on here that will never be satisfied. You could totally cut their argument's appendages off and they'll still try and argue with you. It's best to just let them be miserable.

I wonder if most the guys putting in CBs for Conliffe to UF are just doing it because he OVd to UF this weekend, or if one or more of them learned something more significant and word got around to others, or some just followed suit.

I think they may know something. Since I first responded this morning, there are now 11 CBs for Conliffe to Florida. Also, it is not random guys making the picks. Most of them are recruiting experts with high correct percentages. It is very interesting how it suddenly changed though. I think Tennessee has somebody in the bag.

When you'd find out who some of the recruits were when the preseason magazines hit the stands? Me too.

I don't really think his hand was forced. The coaches didn't have to take Palmer's commitment. They could have waited. They just didn't want to.

Thats the point. He wouldn't commit. They could've waited? Palmer wants to be a vol. Its the 11th hour & conliffe is still taking visits. If you tell palmer he has to wait til nsd to see what conliffe wants to do then we force palmer to go somewhere else also & still may not get a guy that is visiting another school right now. Palmer cant wait on conliffe because it leaves him with nowhere to go if conliffe decides to be a vol. Conliffe forced butches hand. Fl can wait til the last minute cause their class is awful & beggars can't be choosers. W Dooleys last class we got a 4 star dt that wanted to go to Fl but they ran out of room & turned him away. So we signed him a couple days after nsd. He ended up at fl later on anyway.

Yep. Don't forget the parade AA lists in the Sunday paper plus I liked the Dallas Morning News recruiting lists. When I did come across the magazines, I'd grab several.

Your first sentence is false or at least premature i can see three quarters of our class that would be takes on most SEC teams. Your second sentence is hyperbole.

Eh there's a lot of spin here. Saying that Butch's hand was forced implies he had no choice but to take Palmer's commitment. And that's just not the case. Same goes with Thaxton last week.

The fact is that the staff kinda backed themselves into a corner numbers wise this go around.

Not a fact just your spin with the limited amount of knowledge you have about the myriad of situations.
