'18 AL OLB Matthew Flint (Former UT commit 8/2/17)

It's the off season in the recruiting forum. Somebody has to suck or there's nothing to complain about. It's just the Bobs' turn now...that's all.

I mean saying they just got stupid overnight is really hard to swallow. It is more likely that Montrell has a stupid opinion than the Bob's are idiots that don't know how to evaluate now.

Once again, this kid has tremendous speed for a linebacker and could have a monster senior season. But like i said earlier, it's still early and new names will surface. The media has said that we will take 6-7 more commits. If you believe what you read that will be 2 more WR, 1 more OL or TE (depending on who commits), 1 or 2 more DL (preferably a WDE) 1 more DB and that leaves 1 or 2 spots left for possible best available at other positions (fingers crossed for BJ Emmons). Then there is always 1 or 2 decommits before NSD. Long way to go before NSD folks.

So now the Bob's suck?

Now? I've never been a Welton fan. He looks at projects like they are in the NFL with a 10 year window to reach their "potential", not a 4-5 year college eligibility window. What project has he evaluated up to this point who has turned into a great player?

You seriously think Shoop was good last year?

I was disappointed in Shoop's results last year...but there were other factors that contributed to poor performance on the field. Strength & conditioning as well as better supporting staff had better produce better results. We did lose some talented players to the draft...but the cupboard ain't exactly bare. If Tuttle were healthy you could have a 5* D-line starting. No excuses this year.

Did you edit that original post? The one where you asked if I thought Shoop was good last year? I'll answer that question first. I think it is dumb to believe a widey respected, and very well established coordinator became stupid overnight. It is infinitely more likely that there were a perfect storm of factors that led to him having a bad season instead. If you want to have a conversation about whether or not he is a great DC is one I will go along with, nevertheless I think that Bob Shoop has proven over many years to be well above average in his profession, and plenty good enough at his job to win with here. Last season was a disaster of epic proportions no doubt, I think it extremely likely that he learned very valuable lessons. He doesn't seem like a idiot buffoon to me.

What defines a "project" to you? Stars? Need to know the parameters to respond. As currently interpreted, I don't believe our roster has many. And why do they have to end up "great"? Very few highly rated players achieve that distinction. Moseley fits the bill of PROJECT, for me...and I'd say we got some mileage out of that one.

On this question..my feelings are a little more ambiguous. You make a good point about the window. I still don't think Welton sucks though. I think he does a good job, if you think about it the success/fail ratio in evaluating less heralded players, it is obviously going to be a higher in failures over time than if you were just taking highly sought after recruits. Maybe they expect that..I don't know. I do know Bob Weldon is respected for what he does by people that are smarter than me.

It has to do with ppl being mad i dont always agree with certian recruits or recruiting period. This bs goes bk to the fat Rb that went to Nebraska i told everyone that he would be purdged. I know my stuff really well, ppl like to crack jokes on a profession that pays me more than they slave to do etc. I hv no issues with that, but I'm bad because i say 1 kid is better than the other lolllll this is hilarious. Glad I'm not the sensitive one here.

I don't really care much about your opinion (not truth). I just wish you would try English Bro.

You're kidding, right? Moseley sucks the worst in a secondary full of suck.

He's not a star but he's made more than enough plays to justify his scholarship. Pretty good for a 2 star when the Bobs found him. And he outplayed Stephen Griffin...so there's alway someone SUCKIER. :)

What do you consider a project? A 3 star or more to it? I mean if we are talking 3 stars then Kelly was a guy people dogged his commitment. Tatum was a development player at T that is now challenging as a starter. Robertson was a 2 star. Vickers was a 2 star.

I mean this staff hasn't taken on as many 2/3 stars as people want to believe. A lot of kids were a 4 star on at least one of four sites.

Linebacker has been purely lacknof development and strength program severely let that group down last yr. it's not hard for a kid like Flint to gain the weight needed in a real program. You can't teach 4.5 speed at that position. It's not like he is a bum.

I've mentioned before only Jumper and Elliot Berry were not 4 star players at LB during recruitment. So tonsay they recruit the position bad is inaccurate. Thigpen just isn't a great coach. They will prob look better since we have a few GAs/analyst they brought in with LB coaching experience in NFL and college

Yep 2 star typically mean never see field scout team guy. Moseley starting several games has outplayed his ranking. one can argue he has the talent and was failed by a poor technician asst coach

One can argue, then I gots his back. Much as I try to support our coaches, I've never been a Martinez fan.

Late getting back to this thread, but if DeJuan still wants to play the compare our bank accounts game.....I'll be his Huckleberry.

Agreed. I have been saying the last couple of years this forum WAY overrates Welton. He has been VERY underwhelming after various posters claimed to think he is a better evaluator than recruiting sites. He hasn't come close to be honest.

He's played like his ranking. IMO Him playing CB for us just lets us know how bad the position has been.

When evaluating Welton, besides the lower "ranked" recruits who signed with UT don't you also have to consider all the guys we were in on before the recruiting services noticed them?

Doesn't fot the narrative so no. But I think what you wrote makes complete sense. So probably won't fly here. We are lucky to have Welton and is why we are on the front of making offers. A few high ranking programs have noticed our offers as well.
