I would think, and I know I have been humbled, that a Tennessee fan would recognize recruiting rankings don’t mean squat.

Yes, you need players to win. No question. But other schools are going to get theirs too.

When you lose, it’s pretty clear that the class ranking didn’t matter.

My god, we’ve had nothing but 4 and 5 Star qbs this decade and complete a forward pass.

Recruiting is part of the battle. But, only “part”

Has this recruiting class met your expectations?

such a loaded word, expectations.

what did you expect? don't tell me "this isn't meeting my expectations....

tell me why you expected any of these kids that signed elsewhere, or might still later today, to sign at UT?

please, be specific. in truly interested.

Comparing Dooleys first class and Pruitt’s is apples to oranges. Dooley may have followed a rough situation in Kiffin leaving but Pruitt is following a laughing stock of a situation and 10+ years of incompetence. UT at least had the resemblance of a top program when Dooley came in, Pruitt has to rebuild that image. He has more factors going against him then Dooley did, IMO.

A bigger factor for me is Kiffin recruited his butt off the entire year and laid a great foundation mainly with the EEs. What hurt Pruitt is Butch and co stopped recruiting a while ago leaving mth or more of nothing. it wasn't like when Kirby took over UGA and Richt/Pruitt had him a class teed up.

Truth.

Butch knocked recruiting out of the park for 2 consecutive years. It netted us two 9-win seasons and a Battle of Bristol trophy

Can’t disagree, it’s another good point. Factor that in with an early signing period that was unprecedented and its a much different situation than what Dooley walked into.

I think they matter. National Championship teams are all loaded with 4 and 5 stars. Outside of UCF of course.

Edit: Dooley also didn’t have to deal with an early signing period.

Not to mention- at the time, with the exception of Gators, everyone else in SEC East sucked.

I'd say no, but if that's the case is the problem with Pruitt or with our expectations?

This class (according to 247) is far and away better than Butch's first class, and recruiting certainly wasn't an issue with CBJ. Also, Pruitt had to deal with the early signing period.

A lot of fans here like to point at Pruitt striking out on the 5-stars and settling for 3-stars, where they wanted him to go out and get 4s. Fact is, all the 4-stars and high 3-stars were gone in December, so Pruitt spent his time looking for the best of what was left, and diamond in the rough type prospects. We've yet to see how that works, but given the timing of the hire, it's not like he had another option.

Easy with the logic bro.

Why any coach would want to deal with this insane bunch of fans is beyond me. Constant negativity from the same set of voices. No matter what thread you can read the same blather from the same crowd.

JP actually did an excellent job during the early signing period....it’s the last month that he struggled with. I trust with a year to get after it, 2019 will be substantially better....and it better be.

Yep Alabama and Georgia are doing terrible with all of their 5 Stars

Enough with the excuses....to win, a coach has to come in here, buck the trend and overcome the excuses. "The other guy that didn't get it done had it bettter" excuse is getting old!

I expected the month of January to be more productive, honestly. Pruitt and staff did a great job pulling some JuCo prospects in December, and I thought, with the entire month of January, he would be a closer and a finisher. This recruiting class did not finish well. It felt more like we were trying to hold on for dear life with the few guys we had pulled, like Peterson and Young.

I expected him to be able to hold onto Jordan Young.
I expected him to be able to recruit some highly recruited DBs. Yes, he pulled 2 guys on the last day as backup options. I expected the "Minkah Fitzpatrick" pull that we heard so much about to actually pay dividends.
I expected him to either be able to hold onto Grant or bring in someone as a replacement for him.
I expected him to attract more HS talent on defense. Peterson is a HUGE get, but outside of him, felt like we pretty much struck out on defense in January.

Those would be a few areas where I feel like expectations weren't met. Would you disagree with those? Or did you expect him to lose Jordan Young and finish defensively the way we did?
