'18 GA QB Justin Fields

Ah, we didnt want him anyway. We are in on so many better QBs. Dont worry though, I am sure we can find the Cam Sutton of Qbs. 3* QBs win in the SEC ALL the time. We are fine.

2018 is right around the corner so yes lets just quit we can't seem to win at anything. Do you have any tissues I'm feeling so emotional right now...have you seen my phone?

I honestly don't know why people seem to expect we land one of the top QB's in the country every class and are disappointed when we don't. Luckily we got JG last year, but to be honest, there are maybe 5 top flight QBs in the 2018 class. What makes people think we are going to be able to compete with the OSU's, Clemson's etc and land one of them right now? We simply aren't a top 5/10 team right now and until things get fixed IMO we shouldn't expect to land the cream of the crop QB targets.

Probably because so many (Lawrence, Jones, Fields, Johnson) have had us a favorite (even committed in Johnson's case) at one point or another.

Its just not reasonable IMO. Yea maybe we were favorites (aka placeholders) over a year before their signing day even approaches. But as the attention starts coming in from the actual top 5/10 teams in the country that interest has steadily dropped with all of them and now it seems the actual top schools are getting the commitments of the top QBs, shocking. Except GA, they suck and still manage to get who they want. .

UT fans...unreasonable? Get out of here with that nonsense!

Lol touche. Its sucks, but to me, this is exactly how I would expect QB recruiting to be going until we show that we are East champions or SEC contenders. At the very least we need some coaching upgrades, until then we better hope QD and JG light it up and we evaluate a lower ranked QB correctly, JMO.

Thought I read where UT was getting a top-notch QB coach. Anyone know if that was published or did I dream it?

Very sensible post buddy. :good!:

Fields has already committed to Penn State so he's gone. Lawrence has not had us as a favorite either. Clemson has been his favorite for a long time. Jones has been up there towards the top for us but not the rest of the guys you mentioned. We have quite a few QB's to choose from though in 2018 but probably not any of the top 10 QB's now unless we can get Joyner.

Still not over. We will see if he sticks with his commitment or decides to play closer to home. Besides, sounds like we are back in the Trevor Lawerence sweepstakes.

The 2 reese cups the "friends of the program" ponied up to TL this past weekend just wasn't enough to sway him to our Vols.

The movement to DOM1N8 the 2018 class is in full effect as Tennessee was quick to roll out the new branding. The coaches worked the phone heavily as the class of 2017 LOI's rolled in on Wednesday. One of the players that spoke with Butch Jones and the staff is Penn State quarterback commitment Justin Fields. Jones and Mike Canales were by to see him in the final moments before signing day with coaches still on the road. Fields remains committed to the Nittany Lions, but it will be interesting to see if anything develops now that the Vols have a quarterbacks coach on board in Canales.

Article on VQ:

"It's been just over two months since Kennesaw, Georgia quarterback Justin Fields committed to Penn State. In that time, he's seen the Nittany Lions narrowly lose the Rose Bowl and several colleges continue to pursue him with coaches out on the road in full force during January.

"It's always good to keep your options open because you never know what's going to happen," Fields said. "That's how I go about things. My dad likes me to keep my options open because you never know what could happen at Penn State. Someone could leave and stuff like that."

Academics were big for Fields as he narrowed down his list of possible destinations. That helped Penn State and so did one other uncertainty.

"Coach DeBord just left and I kind of got a hint of that before I made my decision," Fields said. "That's probably one of the main reasons I committed to Penn State. I also think that coach Franklin is going to continue to do a great job in the future."

Penn State beat out Tennessee for Fields as the two were neck and neck before State College won out over Rocky Top. That hasn't stopped the Vols though as head coach Butch Jones and his new quarterbacks coach Mike Canales stopped by to see Fields last month.

"Coach Canales is a great guy," Fields said. "He texts me every day. I think what makes him a good quarterbacks coach is his work ethic. He works the quarterback very hard to make them better. I can tell from talking to him that he's always been about football."

Tennessee was able to get Fields on the phone during National Signing Day and he appreciates their drive to dig their way back into the thick of it with him.

"That's always a good feeling when a school wants you," Fields said. "I got to speak to coach Scott briefly. He said he likes my game and he thinks I'd be a great fit in their offense. Before I committed they were my other top school. Right now, I'm still committed to Penn State. You just never know what could happen like I said earlier."

Fields plays baseball during the spring and won't be seeing any schools. That includes the school he is currently committed to, Penn State."
