'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

Agree EJ fits Tennessee's system better. Lawrence wants to play in a pro style offense which is why he is leaning towards schools that run a pro-style system. It's really no more complicated than that IMO. Trying to switch back and forth between a dual threat QB system and a pro-style system, would be a nightmare; especially when it comes to blocking. Seems to me the better approach is to pick a system, stick with it, recruit players that fit the system; and don't sweat the players that don't fit.

Ever follow Butch's Cincy teams? He had some guys that could SLING it. I think the offense being tailored for a mobile quarterback has been more a product of not having one who could throw it effectively. I don't think CBJ and DeBord would have to move mountains to make that offense more suited for a pocket passer. Especially with potential bookend tackles like Trey Smith and Cade Mays in orange.

No doubt with a QB like Lawrence, CBJ would have less designed QB run plays. I still think he would likely stick to a version of the spread offense though. It sounds like Lawrence is leaning towards playing in a pro style offense where a large percentage of snaps are taken from under center and there is a play action component. Regardless, it sounds like Lawrence associates Tennessee's offense with a running QB. He associates Georgia's offense with a QB who utilizes a good bit of play action, where he hands the ball off to a running back or throws a pass. Not sure how he views Clemson's offense; they definitely have designed run plays for Watson...but they are bringing in Hunter Johnson in 2017 who is more of a pro style QB.

I do think the dual threat QB Clemson signed in 2016 and Hunter Johnson who is the #1 rated QB in the 2017 class, makes the depth chart dicey for a 2018 QB going to Clemson. The depth chart at Georgia is a little more friendly IMO. Lawrence definitely likes the Clemson coaches though; so who knows. If he picks Clemson; oh well...there's a 2019 QB in Georgia that looks like the real deal.

Be surprised if an announcement doesn't happen in July here. Speaking of #1 QB, one to watch is Harrison Bailey. C/O 2020 but just like I said at the beginning of this thread, he will vie for the #1 QB in the nation. Also, TL's backup QB at Cartersville is getting offers, a good one as well.

Good lord. I hope I don't have to look at a 2020 recruit for our next big QB hah. Man, that's a little ways off to even have him in the conversation. Dude is a Freshmen.

Mizzou has already offered a 2021 QB. He's a rising 8th grader.

Rivals is scouting 6th grade players now and many D-1 schools have middle-schoolers on their radar. That includes UT.

They may be on the coaches radar, but feels a little premature to be discussing them here. But that is simply my opinion. Coaches have to look at these kids years in advance to stay in the hunt.

But as a fan, talking about a 2020 kid, someone who has their whole high school career in front of them, just seems a little ridiculous. But hey, I'm just one person.

Offers are going out earlier and earlier. I believe UT has already offered about 150 kids for 2018 and around 50 thus far for 2019.

I'm glad you are just one person, otherwise which one blogs? I will say some people do think they are more than one person.

I agree that these kids are getting attention earlier and earlier, heck 2019 kids are already announcing. A kid from where my wife is from just committed. He is 6'5" and 285 per his coach, he is 14!

Yeah and to me that is just ridiculous. Committing at age 14 is a brash movie, IMO. Chances are he is going to end up decommitting from where he is from and "opening his recruitment back up." Because more often than not, when you commit that young you haven't fully explored all options.

Now, that isn't meant to be a slight against that particular kid. Everyone is getting caught up in the moment these days and each person wants his moment as soon as he can get it. Its just we have learned how little a commitment really means until NSD so they whole notion of commitment 2-4 years before your NSD is a joke.

We're seeing that from 17- and 18-year-olds. Commitment to these kids is a fluid concept.

Things have changed. Some of these 2020 and 2021 skill players are far from your average 14-year-olds. The top QB prospects have been training with a coach and attending camps since they were in the first or second grade. By middle school, they're attending elite camps with high schoolers and playing at the HS level. They have scouting reports, rankings and web pages. UT had the top 7th and 8th grade players in the state on campus a few weeks ago. CFB has become a business, and this is one of the outcomes.

That's exactly what Cade Mays was when we first offered two years ago.

Unfortunately, that's only half true anymore.... Just as football is limited to 85 scholarships, Div I golf teams, men's and women's, are limited to 6 full scholarships. The question then becomes, does the school fully fund all 6 or do they skim and fund less? It varies school-to-school... Even still, the way scholarships are doled out varies coach-to-coach. A lot of it depends on how many players the coach wants on the team (can have more than 6 players but only 6 scholarships). It's been our experience that most coaches try to divvy up the scholarships so the team can have more than 6 players and each of them get some money. Now, the golf budget isn't affected by academic monies so ACT scores are always important to golf coaches. Again, those issues vary a bit depending on school and coach, but that's the general concept.

As for taking her golfing.... Well, she kicks my butt regularly... She's 5"2, 120ish and drives the ball an average of 235-240. She's carrying a 5 handicap playing between 5800-6000 yards depending on the tour.

Still...thanks for the kudos... Very kind of you to say...

Well, I'm gonna make one more off-topic post in this thread and I'll stop. I'm just a proud dad, and there aren't a lot of places to post this info...(my buddies are tired of hearing it because she's better than them too, and you guys may be too if I keep on).

Anyway, my daughter played 36 holes today in the West KY College Showcase at Drake Creek Golf Club. She was the ONLY high school girl (she's between SO and JR year) playing with all college girls... The course played 6178 yards in the women's division, and she went 75-77... Now, we missed a few putts we should've made, but that's good enough for 4th place after the first 2 rounds!! We're only 6 strokes out of the lead!! We had several college coaches watching, and her swing coach says several more will be there tomorrow. We'll see...

On a sad note (for me), we received an email today (indirectly because they can't contact us yet), but UT has already filled its 2018 class so they don't have room for her. Oh well, we're still VFL!!

As for TL (to stay on-topic), I don't care anymore who we get as long as we get a good QB for the '18 class!! Lol...

Had lunch with some people around Cartersville this week. TN is not out of this race by a long shot, I'll just say that. I predicted TL would be a vol awhile back just thinking he would go with his heart. I almost changed that last week with some info before talking with those around him this week.

If I had to say, I'd say UGA with a VERY slight lead right now but Tn is right there. TL has taken some trips that was not publicized, I can say. Decision is coming soon, it will not go past July.

Anyway, just wanted to share, not all hope is lost. Forget CU and FLA, this is strictly a TN/GA battle.

Strong post..I hope you're right. At this point I think it should be considered a recruiting coup if Butch is able to salvage this one. I considered him gone weeks ago. A question though, why has he kept pro UT info to such a minimum? Why keep it quiet?

To make it a huge coup... Duh

EJ is a stud, but I would still rather land TL. He's got future AA written all over him.

If I could tell you what a 16 or 17 year old was thinking or why they do certain things, I would be a rich man. Plus, and a big plus, I would have a LOT more hair on my head since I have two teenage daughters and I never have a clue what THEY are thinking much less TL.
