'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

Need Smart to be Dooley 2.0. Why is Lawrence no longer interested in UT?

Huge difference in their style. Smart may end up coaching like Dools but he recruits like Saban. If he doesn't win, the cupboard will be full for the next guy. QB is so big in CFB now, if TL commits to them, you have in consecutive years the #1, #3, #1 QB in the same QB meetings. Dools knew he was done and didn't even try to recruit.

Winning the East only twice since 2005 doesn't count for much.

And yes, we haven't won since 2007. That's not the point.

Most CFB analysts and journalists (not fans) would agree that 10 wins in a season is a successful and "winning" season, especially in the toughest conference in the nation. Agree?

Just heard Joel Klatt on the Midday 180 say that Butch Jones has not lived up to expectations in his mind. This coming off of a 9 win season, and a progression in wins each year.

It's hard to see one 10 win season changing that perception for guys who don't really do much due diligence. The 10 wins has to be a "loud" 10 wins- meaning you beat the right teams.

Richt's run at Georgia was great and has made Smart's job easier from the start.

But there's no denying they've underperformed considering the talent they have had and how dismal the East has been since probably 2011.

Georgia fans should thank Florida for beating SC in 2011. The Dawgs got absolutely thrashed by the Cocks.

3-14 against ranked teams and 1-8 against our top rivals. Other coaches are negative recruiting with this.

Close against UGA in '13, Worley stays healthy against UGA in '14, put the foot on the gas against OU last year, and finish against UF (14/15) and those stats would show real progress.

7-10 against ranked opponents and 5-4 against top rivals.

Those almost wins really sting. We'd be sitting a lot prettier otherwise.

I don't think there is any doubt the Fla game is the biggest game of Jones' career thus far, you? I do think had Butch won 10 games last year (and he should have) the commentary would be different. They are talking Fla today and I've heard multiple times, we he did win 10 last year. Meaning, they deemed that successful.

this is crazy, he thinks he's got a better shot over Eason and Hunter than UT? He will be sitting and watching...

By the time Lawrence gets to UGA, Eason will be a Junior assuming Eason plays this year (which I think most expect him to). That means he can redshirt and be able to start playing as a redshirt Sophomore once Eason is gone, or even a Freshmen if Eason leaves early for the draft and lives up to the hype.

I'm sure he has thought this out plenty. It's our anemic passing offense and our scheme we run that is turning him away. Emory Jones has always been the better fit, but it doesn't look very promising with him either.

Wow, actually counting moral victories???

By far. I think the two must win games this year are Florida and Bristol. I normally wouldn't pick a non conference game but the eyes of the college football world will be on that. If we lose to Bama, it's Bama, and if we lose to UGA it's acceptable because it's away and we beat them last year. Of course, you can't lose to App St, UK, etc., but I'm being presumptuous.

Does anybody find it eerily interesting that TL, HJ and TH were all thought to be headed to UT just last year and now Clemson is the front runner?

Did they just like different shades of orange? Recent NCS run by Clemson make the difference? Probably the lack of a productive, downfield passing game here is the real, underlying theme but it is only July 2016.

It's just weird that they all are Clemson leans at this point.

Sorry for the rehash but just had to get this out somehow for sanity's sake. :thud:

Why would you say that? Everything I read is a toss up between us and Ohio State. Do you know something or the usual crap some of the down in the mouthers spill?

"down in the mouthers", that's rich! LOL

We sure have our share here but it is ONLY July 11th.

No, I was saying if we had won things would be different.

Absolutely. I agree with you. But we didn't, so they aren't.

Being unable to finish close games and blowing leads in big games is being used against us in recruiting and it will continue to hurt us until we start winning big games.

I said before in here there's an assistant coach at Cartersville that's a Clemson alum, and he doesn't push kids to Clemson (really haven't had many players of that caliber recently) but that relationship I'm sure doesn't hurt. Said coach goes to most Clemson home games with a pass from the school.

I would still expect UGA here.

I'm not spilling anything. So go ahead and be rude if you want. I have just seen our momentum drop with him ever since he was offered by OSU. Prior to that, we were a huge favorite to land him and it looked all but sealed.

I'm not blaming a poor coaching/recruiting job or anything. I'm just noticing a momentum shift in his recruitment and believe, IN MY OPINION, that he will be choosing OSU because he has stated that it's his dream school. So chill out.

It may be time for Jones to ponder a philosophical change and go to more of a pro style attack that features a drop back, pocket passer. He is having too much trouble recruiting to this system right now. We look handcuffed to it...

Handcuffed this class? Because JG seems poised to do great things for us. And Dormady, Jones, and Dobbs weren't half bad either.

2017 was a down year for the QB class. And we were/are in the conversation for 2 of the top 2 guys in '18. Emory seemed to be waiting to see what Lawrence was doing. Distance being a factor and the depth chart more favorable may get us our signal caller in E Jones.

Why? You run the system that is the best for on field results and you recruit to that system. You don't change your system for a recruit. That's what you do in high school. Recruit who fits your system. The system has been pretty beneficial on the field IMO
