FYI, X is the Greek letter “chi,” the initial letter in the word Χριστός. Χριστός means “Christ.”

Informal, yes. Sacrilegious, no.

I always bring this up in that discussion.

Kristy, hope it doesn't ruin your day to agree with a negavol on something.

I know that, most people that use that do not, and they just use it as a form of disrespect to Christ and to Christians. But like I said it is a right to say whatever you want. I know you are not on that side, so I'm not referring to you.

But those qualities could describe a number of good coaches. Heck, they describe Fulmer to a T when DC and JC were here. That's not something that's unique to Dabo.

I think what people are really hoping for with the Dabo comparison is that there is a seemingly magic switch that's going to be flipped to go to the next level. This is the part that I have a hard time seeing.

And I think, honestly, that's a bit unfair to Butch. He has proven at a couple of places that he's a good HC. He has some tangible head coaching feathers in his cap. The question to me is if he is at this level. That's the part that I've argued doesn't really apply to Dabo.

That is a fair point. Clemson did seem to suddenly flip the magic switch and that will be hard to replicate.

But I do agree with Ziti and Ron. I have been pushing the Dabo angle for a while now and while I think this is Butch's best route for success, I am definitely not saying that we can just flip the magic switch as well. You are correct we have a tougher conference and the margin for error is smaller, but if Butch is going to survive here he is going to have to give up control and get in top notch coordinators to help him. He can't do it on his own, just like Dabo couldn't.

There are IMO very few coaches that actually can control everything and be good enough to do it. Butch seemed to do it at the lower level, but this isn't Cincinatti anymore. He needs help.

EDIT: I get that a lot of coaches have done the same thing as Dabo and Fulmer is a good example. Dabo is just the most obvious recent coach to do it IMO.

Clemson stand a pretty good chance at landing Zamir White too. Ewww....

Tends to happen when your an it team for two straight years in CFP. Interested to see how they do when Watson leaves. He is special and I'm not sure the guys they will have before Lawrence gets there will be able to duplicate that production.

I am curious to see how they do next year. They have a ton of talent on the offensive side of the ball but Watson will be hard to replace. He was top 3 (2?) in the heisman race two years in a row for a reason. No matter who you have coming in there will be a dip in production. But again, they have so much talent and more coming that I think they will still be a very good team.

Sure does. Still rare for a team to get 2 top 5 players...only Bama and USC have done it I think

Watson looked like a star coming out of HS. Kid is just different. I'm expecting them to have that FSU type of falloff when they had life without Jameis. Watson is so much like him in terms of one guy having a huge impact. Then they probably have a better 2018 when Lawrence steps in.

Butch has to hire elite coordinators and assistants, and most importantly get out of their way and let them coach, just like Dabo did. That's how he's going to take it to the next level and win championships at Tennessee. If he doesn't do those things he most likely won't be around much longer.

I really think it's that simple.

Agreed Ron, that's essentially what I labeled as the "180" he needs to do. He could also stand to take a "Gameday Coaching in the SEC 101" class. And while it's not necessary to building a championship level program, I'd personally appreciate it if he'd take a series of communications classes on how to speak responsibly and coherently in a public setting.

Agree.. Million dollar question, can he do that? I admit, I'm not confident he can.

We'll find out over the next month.

Shoop needs to bring in a couple guys he trusts on D, guys that can not only coach but also recruit at a high level. I like the idea of Hoke to DL and Fair to CB's but only if Shoop is comfortable with those changes. His D was eaten up this season but we all know he's better than that, fix it NOW. '17 might be all he gets, his replacements on D better be the best he can get.

DeBord needs to either step aside or bring in an elite playcaller/QB coach to be the Co-OC. Helfrich would be fine with me. Someone who is innovative and can adjust strengths to the talent on the team.

Try your best to keep CRG and CLS on offense, bump in pay. And bring in a new WR and OL coach. Better ones.

And Butch better make a home run hire (not in name but in results) at S&C coach. Sounds like it's going to be the Rams guy, sure hope he toughens this team up and makes them ALL much better football players.

2017 is a make or break season for this coaching staff at UT. Butch better hope he brings in the right guys and they win the East or he won't be coaching in Knoxville in '18, IMO. And there's NO reason that can't happen. Plenty of talent on this roster and the East is garbage. The right assistant hires should be able to get us to ATL next December.

I'm rooting for Butch and his guys because I'm tired of coaching searches. Just make it happen. No excuses.

Im convinced DeBord is the reason we can't sign a top tier QB...

Butch needs to make a home run QB coach hire this off season, that much is certain.

Nick Sheridan isn't cutting it. Nick has learned under DeBord, Rich Rod's QB guy, Rod Smith at Michigan & Willie Taggart @ WKU/USF. We need someone with experience here, not just another yes-man who has experience under Coach DeBoring.

Perfectly sums up everything I want and hope to happen as well. Butch needs the upgrades.

Call me crazy, but I think Azzani did a good job this season coaching the receivers up. Malone 850 yds 10 TDs and Jennings 500 yds 7 TDs. Those are really good numbers for your top 2 guys, and all the younger receivers showed promise as well. Azzani is a good recruiter, and I think he has shown he's a good coach this season. Our receivers showed great improvement in my opinion.

I have no problem with CZA either.

I hope we keep him and Gillespie on the offense but am open to making Gillespie an co-oc to keep him.

Edit: I know many of you don't agree. I think that RG is someone that we should do whatever it takes to keep him. Hes a good coach not just a good recruiter. I see Butch talk to him more than anyone else on the sidelines.

Have to disagree with you on this one. I've used the shortened version many, many times and I can assure you I have never used it as derogatory towards Christ. Just lazy while I was typing, think you are being a little too sensitive on this subject.. GBO

Cade Mays is #10 overall and a 5star. Greg Emerson is #20 and will likely get bumped to a 5 star next year (only 15 5stars on rivals atm). 2 instate 5 stars in same year isn't so bad. Brendon Harris is #86 as well.

^talkin about top 5 in the nation, not 5*s in general

clemson has a chance to get 3 players from the national top 5.

its ridiculous...pretty sure USC did that once...not sure Bama has ever done it
