'18 TN RB Master Teague

Also proven at not losing to crappy opponents and making it to playoffs.

So, same as Butch?

Also, I actually really hate the guy. I'm just able to look at things rationally. Just because I dislike Meyer doesn't mean I pretend Teague has been "conned" to make my fragile ego feel better.

This is complete speculation based on your biases, not facts. He'd probably have done just fine in the East the past few years. His division has been comparable, even stronger in 2015 and 2016. Also, he's actually beaten Bama and Oklahoma.

And beaten badly with his great big 10 team.

That he cares about being a mentor and leading young men into adulthood. His program covered up so many things and it didn't help them become productive citizens. Tebow didn't need anyone as a mentor because he had plenty of support. Aaron Hernandez did and all he got was things covered up which led him to think because of his athletic prowess, he would not ever suffer consequences for his actions. Some won't ever change who they are regardless of the people in their lives and I realize that. But, Meyer cares more about his own ego and winning and will do anything and use anybody for his own selfish gain. If that's who you want to lead your son as a coach then by all means, go play for him. It's not about OSU or Ohio. Those are preferences kids choose. But as a parent trying to guide a kid, men like Meyers are people you should try to avoid.
This is an argument I can understand.

But I don't think Urban is selling that stuff as much as he is selling past results. In the end that's what sunk his ship at UF. Hopefully the same happens at OSU.

I like your thinking.. money is a driver in everthing in life

So does this mean that Terry Pedigo and you believe that Mater Teague and his family took money to go to Ohio State?

If so, then I think this is a prime example of why Tennessee fans are despised so much by some recruits. Silly accusations that cannot be backed up by any amount of proof.

He also had 2 90 yard games and averaged over 6 ypc on the season.
Like I said, he had four 100 yard plus games, other than that his stats were very average. And it's not like he had to split time with another star back.
Also, I have no idea wtf "RB Nostradamus" is supposed to mean since Nostradamus wasn't even good at what he did.

It was used to illistrate a point. Maybe I should have made an simpler comparison. I had confidence you'd get it but obviously it was misplaced. The response was in respect to Meyer offering a running back automatically made the prospect elite. I have disproven that several ways.

When he left the East was fairly strong because Spurrier had USCe on the rise and Richt had UGA peaking. Plus having to play (a then stronger) LSU every year was nearly as tough a draw as Bama. I do agree his path to the post season has been much easier at OSU than it was at UF during his time there (though with UM and PSU rising, that gap is closing somewhat).

But the East isn't nearly what it was in 2010 anymore. It's fallen a lot since then. The East in 2015 or 2016 would have been an absolute cakewalk for him compared to what he faced 7-8 years ago. And their 2015/2016 schedules were very comparable to ours overall.

We're discussing the situation when he left, not currently. He couldn't do it in the SEC so he sought an easier path.

He wasn't splitting his carries with another "star back," but OSU mixed their ground game up a lot last year. Their split percentage of carries in 2016:

JT Barret: 35% (205/583 carries)
Mike Weber: 31% (182/583 carries)
Curtis Samuel: 16.6% (97/583 carries)
Backups accounted for the other 18% of carries (with 8% of that going to freshman Demario McCall).

So, idk, I wouldn't call Weber a star. But he still average over 6 ypc while giving up a lot of carries to other guys. That's more than Hurd ever did and this time last year a lot of people around here (sadly, myself included) had him pegged as a star.

It was just kind of a dumb comparison if you know anything about history lol

But nobody has claimed that an Urban Meyer offer makes a kid elite. Just that he has put some kids into the NFL at OSU and it seems that streak will continue in the near future.

I was originally replying to you saying (this is a direct quote) "Also, he would have done no better here than Butch has done." And me saying he likely would have done fine in in the East the last 2-3 years.

No need to shift the goalposts.

I said he was a solid back. I think he and John Kelly are very similar as far as talent goes.

Oh I know about history and Nostradamus. I don't believe any of the hoopla around him and think it's a bunch of poo. I thought it was good enough to illustrate a point. It's used on many occasions here and other places to illustrate someone who can foresee the future. It wasn't a literal comparison.

But nobody has claimed that an Urban Meyer offer makes a kid elite. Just that he has put some kids into the NFL at OSU and it seems that streak will continue in the near future.

You must have missed the exchange yesterday when a poster made the claim that if Meyer offered him he had to be elite. That was his words not mine. I disagreed and was promptly told how stupid I was.

No goal pole shifting here. The conversation had drifted to why Urban left Florida. As to whether he would of done better here? I doubt it. For these reasons:

* Inept administration from the chancellor to the AD.

*Tougher schedule, Bama every year, nuff said.

*Much more difficult to recruit, If your're from OHIO and you have an offer, you're going to OSU 99 out of 100 times. I don't think he would have recruited much if any better than Butch here.

*The culture here wouldn't have permitted the shenanigans that Meyer allows. They/Meyer have a win at all cost mentality. If it takes criminals to get it done, go get some criminals.

*Other than his Tebow years, he didn't get it done at Florida. Despite being located in one of the most talent rich areas in the country and recruiting questionable character kids, he still couldn't get it done and his stock was falling.

Regardless, it's a point that can't be proven either way making it opinion. I have never been enamored with Meyer.

.

FL was a choke. I wouldn't take away the fact that OU had a future Heisman candidate at QB who made some unreal plays that game.

However, you've stated yourself that when losing pretty much your entire starting DL in addition to other key defensive players (Sutton, JRM, etc.), it would be difficult to play against anyone. But, now, you are dogging us for losing those games? Pick a side, please.

I don't think people are taking scheduling into consideration as much as they should. The month of October is grueling for UT every year. Three massive games in a row each year. That can and does take a lot out of a team down the stretch. tOSU and Clemson don't have to worry about that.

We didn't lose "pretty much our entire starting DL" last year. We had 3 of 4 starters out there the entire season, Barnett, Vickers and Vereen. Only starter lost was OBrien, and that wasn't until after game 6. We lost two second string DTs in KMac and Tuttle and Alexis Johnson never got in shape so that he could contribute.

I do agree with this somewhat. His best rushing attacks have usually featured QBs quite a bit in the run game at th expense of RBs, IMO.

And I think that's something that can be used against them on the recruiting trail, if you can sell the RB you're recruiting that he'll have as good a chance at playing for championships at your school as at Urban's.

And that's a tough sell for 9/10 coaches.

His QB's have been RB's except for Alex Smith.

You really think Vickers and O'Brien were as disruptive as Tuttle and KMac? Besides, Vickers was the only true DT we had after the South Carolina game, our LBing core had been in shambles since the Florida game, our best CB missed the meat of our schedule. I question Butch's choice for strength coach moreso than I do his coaching last year. I hope the lesson learned is that Butch will not be successful unless he hires legit Power 5 coaches.

Doesnt make him any better than Grant.

Well your reply to my post was based on their 247 composite ratings...

But I guess we just disagree. And that's fine. I'm no talent scout, of course. I just think Teague is a better prospect than Grant.

I think Grant is a solid back who does pretty much everything well, but doesn't have any elite traits. Teague has ideal size, elite or near elite speed, and good vision. Doesn't show great lateral agility on his highlights, but that could partially be because his straight line speed is good enough to just blow by his competition most of the time. That's a question mark with him, IMO.

All that being said, I'd still love to add Grant to our class. One thing I really like about Grant (that kind of reminds me of JK) is that he's also a defensive and special teams contributor for his team. Sometimes kids who play both ways in high school take a bigger step forward at the next level than the kids who spend all their time focusing on one spot.

I hope we get Grant and then we will be able to watch it play out and revisit in 4 years.

Teague has better measurables, Grant plays better competition and like you said plays both ways. They are different players but i feel they are comparable at this time in terms of value. We shall see.

If Wommack bumps him, hypocrisy (or utter lies) on display.

I fell like it's inevitable at this point that he gets some bumps from a couple services, especially if one of their other RBs ends up decommiting.. The narrative of "Best recruiting class ever for OSU?" has been getting pushed for a while now.

Me too. I hope we get Grant and I'm wrong.

Yes it was. He was one of 4 RB in that class and Saban looked to move him to slot. He did his one year and went JUCO so he could play RB somewhere.

Yet no one speaks of how Satan was about to misuse him. He wasn't even going to play him at running back. Greater under utilization than even Coach Butch Jones.

Saying he wouldn't have done better here than Butch probably is the funniest thing I've read. Lol

Give him the same team 2 years ago and Tennessee beats everyone but Bama and has a good chance to beat them the second time around. Meyer gets a lot out of his teams and recruits like a maniac.
