'18 TN RB Master Teague

Saying he wouldn't have done better here than Butch probably is the funniest thing I've read. Lol

Give him the same team 2 years ago and Tennessee beats everyone but Bama and has a good chance to beat them the second time around. Meyer gets a lot out of his teams and recruits like a maniac.

Let Meyer take over a program and resurrect it from the pits of hell and then come see me.

Nah, Meyer is the end all be all. He would've been able to win a national championship by year 2.

Lol...Meyer would have had a heart attack by year 3, if he would have taken over this program. He couldn't have handled it. Breakerboy seems to be more of a buckeye fan than a Vol fan. JMO

It's ok to hate the guy and admit he's a good coach. Same with Saban. I hate those guys and spend every year hoping both their programs finally implode so I can pop open a nice Macallan 18 and bask in some sweet, sweet schadenfreude.

So far the closest I've gotten is an 8-5 (4-4) year with Meyer and a 6-6 year from Saban at Bama. As much as I hate them, there's a reason those guys have gotten results. Sometimes a coach can ride a wave of talent to a Natty or get a season where all the breaks go their way. But once you've done it 3 times, it's just because you're good at what you're doing.

It's hard to make an intellectually honest argument that either of those guys wouldn't have been able to do at least a decent job taking over after Dooley (on the field at least...one thing I'll always give Butch credit for is working his APR magic).

I think Urby is a fraud, I think he has benefited from some fortuitous circumstances. I agree about Saban. Neither of them took over a nuked into oblivion program however.

So much salt in this thread, dear lawd. Cant really blame the kid for taking the OSU offer... that's an easy decision for most recruits, unfortunately, even for the ones from TN...Put up a good season and maybe we start winning those battles again.

I agree with your last point.

I also don't think being in a fortuitous situation can account for 3 national championships. I've seen guys like Gene Chizik or Gus Malzahn ride the wave to a natty (or an appearance at least). But if you do it 3 times, you're doing something right.

I think he rode the wave from winning his first NC. That NC belonged to Charlie Strongs defense. I also believed he has benefitted from having two really great OCs. His offense hasn't done so great without them. I think he is a massive lying fraud, Saban would have laid waste to his legacy just like he did Myles. Urban saw it coming and quit. He is a front running quitter. His teams do that too when they run into adversity.

FTR, what coaches would you put ahead of him in CFB right now? Genuinely curious.

Would you trade CBJ for Meyer? Just curious.

Saban I hate but respect.
Urban I hate and have zero respect for.

You are genuinely going to write a 500 word post saying why I'm wrong no matter who I name. I think a lot of guys could have his record, given the circumstances he's been given. I will give him credit for being a great spotter of OC talent, and he was on the cutting edge of innovation 10 years ago. That much us true. He is not a mediocre or bad coach by any means, but I don't think he is a coaching god either.

That's one way to look at it but here's the other side of it. What if those guys were great assistants because Urban was able to teach them and help them grow from good to great? I think he's a slime ball, quitter, liar and snake.. But also a great coach. JMO.

I don't.
