'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

He’d need to win the starting spot or plenty will cuss him taking a spot out of the 21 class.
no way to back count him i guess, huh? :) that'd be ideal.

i do agree, taking a spot in the 21 class is a major mark in the cons column....tho i guess you could blue shirt him?

Unless he transfers in NEXT season...no. He’d be part of the 20 class. Right now Velus Jones and Cade Mays rounded out the 25. We have a full 25 unless McBride’s medical retirement gives us 26. One reason I was at peace with Zach Evans being a no go.

i've stayed out of this thread because like all qb threads, they get redundant and sometimes toxic...lol.

but at the end of the day...this is where i'm at on this kid/situation.

we already pretty much accept the fact someone in the QB room is gonna transfer. this either expedites that or maybe two kids do it. either way, i don't htink this affects HB at all. it doesn't affect Salter at all. it won't affect Ty Simpson or Kaden Martin at all.

it could...have a gigantic impact on the 2020 season.....and as someone that's just not overly confident in JG at hte moment, i think i'm fine in getting JTD on campus. and as much as i like the potential of shrout, and marurer in particular, i'm not of the mind set that either is ready to take the reigns full time either.

so, we've all said it....this season goes as far as the QB can take us.....why not go get this kid??? if nothing else, you've just thrown more A+ competition in the boat.

no off season or spring work either...this kid has some experience too....and he has 2 years of eligibility.....which is the last thing on this...with the transfer rules staying as is for now, if the kid can be eligible for 20, then i think this is a no brainer. if not...it's not as desireable....

LSS...i'm in. go get him.
That guy spoke the truth, now lord let it be.

For the JG sunshine pumpers that still lurk in this thread.I know you all rave about his 32 Touchdowns he’s thrown which is cool but I just wanted to mention he’s played 34 games in his Career here at Tennessee. You do the math👀😁🤷🏽‍♂️

Alrighty then. Give yourself a pat on the back for being able to use Google.

If he doesn't win the starting spot, then we can be more certain that whoever beat him out will have earned it. At the very least, he'll give us a capable back-up without much drop-off, which I'm not sure we can say about anyone on our roster right now. I say that based on his track record at a big-time school thus far.
Whether or not he wins the starting job, someone will transfer and the scholly we lost for '21 will be regained down the road. The positives far outweigh the minor inconvenience of temporarily losing one scholarship that we will eventually get back.

Think he'd be '20 since we were pushing for ZE and let him OV. That says we had room for a non blueshirt. Thinking VJJ must have blueshirted. Maybe even the longsnapper if you believe LAVol or Simonton.

Won’t get it back til the next year. Transfer won’t “give it back”...it’s all about a fresh 25. His track record is he passed his team to a 5-7 record via 2672 yards, 14 tds and 10 ints. In a less hot run recruiting season, I wouldn’t begrudge the spot...but you might have noticed?

We signed 23. Velus and Cade would be the last two spots taken if things stand. Daniels enrolls and a spot gets taken out of the 21 class...UNLESS the McBride initial gets returned.

And Albright officially visited...LA was wrong, RIP.

If coach thinks this guy can be the difference between a 7 win season and a 9 or 10 win season, the decision to take him is a no brainer.
I think it very well may be the case this year if eligible. JG can't get us to 10 wins

i keep forgetting about that. fingers crossed then.

i'm just very iffy on JG. i've quasai defended him mostly, but i have no delusions of grandeur either. a lot....A LOT really depends on him taking a pretty big step in 20 if we're going to have a season we think we could have. i mean there's plenty of reasons to think he can/will/should....surrounding cast, year 2 w/chaney etc....but the no off season, no spring, no summer etc....can't help....and we've just seen him the past two years.....he's consistently inconsistent..........so it is what it is there....he's either gonna be much like he has been, or he takes that big step. wont' know til we see it.

a former 5* QB with realy NFL talent potential is at worst a significantly hedged bet on your QB situation.....if he's healthy, and can play, i'm for it....

the only reason i'd be against it is if we had to count him in this 21 class. then i get a little hesitant.

Georgia thinks they have him locked in according to Mr. Smokin who read that somewhere.

Edit: he heard it on SportsTalk - Scott Moore, I think ?

Yeah I ask myself often why we would ever want to add another 5* QB to the mix, really dumb idea imo
Edit: also If he's good enough that Maurer or HB want to transfer, then I'm sure we won't be complaining about his play JS

So you have a likely 3 to 4 yr starter and you want to savage that for a short term starter, and also stunt the growth of the young talented qbs. Yeah I get it see let’s not develop let’s accept the the transfer and then they’ll say hey they don’t want to develop you and will likely to a transfer and bump you back at UT. QB recruiting is different and way more fragile than most other positions. At some point you hv to develop and more the kids you recruit as true freshman

I hope this doesn't come across as condescending, but I just don't understand this kind of logic. Mauer and Strout have shown flashes, but neither has convinced me yet that they are the QB to get us back to a championship level. As good as I believe Bailey will be, I once thought the same of JG and other past UT QBs that didn't pan out. On the other hand, Daniels has already shown that he can compete at a high level.

Bring in as much talent as you can, let them duke it out, and we won't miss those who transfer because they weren't going to play anyway. Even if both Maurer and Strout transfer we still have JG, and if Bailey doesn't beat him out, I don't see him transferring immediately. Plus, we will continue to bring in top talent to replace what we have lost, as evidenced by Salter.

If Daniels doesn't win the job, then whoever does win will have benefited from the competition. It's a win on all fronts.

Just tbh I never thought JG was anything special. I told Buck this when I saw his highlights from his. There’s nothing wrong with bringing in as much talent as possible but at some point you hv to develop your own talent vs kp bringing in transfer qbs

I don't think anyone disagrees. And if this were year 2-3 of Bailey or salter and their careers are going like we hope/expect, I doubt this is a topic for us.

But the qb situation is what it is. Inherited jg and qd... Got shrout last minute and knew he was raw but talented... Got BM next.. Low floor, but really high celling potentiality.. Got KC for competition and depth..

To say it's been (and still is) a work in progress is an understatement.

And unfortunately HB is brand new, and we still aren't really sure what we're gonna get from the three we have.

So while I do agree with you.. We still have the immediate issue of qb for this year to deal with.. With no spring no summer... And no plan yet for fall.

Take the 5* ... It's a hedged bet... And maybe provides depth and competition for 21... Assuming one of, or both, Maurer/shrout transfers.

I've come around on this one.

Want.... Really need imo.

Lol, for you neverJG types you had better buy you some tums because that's who is going to start the season out as our QB, if those tums don't work out try you some Pepto Bismol!

Tough situation. You want to see development, and the kids recruited get their shot. Bring in an outside transfer QB, how does it, or will it, affect team chemistry....?

Winning cures all, got to believe team mates would come around. Earn the spot and earn your stripes on the field, best man wins. Team likes winning.

Loyalty? Hard to see in today's college football word that unfortunately, it's what have you done for me lately? Coaches need to win. Players want, or in some cases, they have to start and play and not sit and wait. Both parties are free to leave a program for greener pastures pretty much at any point in a calendar year. Scholarships are year to year. No matter how much a team sport, all these coaches and players are trying to gain and better their own personal situation in line with the program and sometimes not for betterment of the program.

No matter how much I want HB to be the man, having another competitor and healthy competition with more talent and probability of having that talent perform on the field translating into wins can only help the program in the long run, I would think.
