I can't say that he's made things worse... but that press conference made it clear that he doesn't have any ideas of what to do, to make things better. Abbott looked pretty helpless in that presser. All of his "solutions" are in the abstract. But as you pointed out those actions to make it easier to purchase and carry don't apply to this incident so it's hard to say he's made things worse.
People are mainly pizzed at the clear targeting of children by the LGBTQ movement. I don't care what 2 grown adults do in their bedrooms. But leave the children alone and don't be out here advancing LGBTQ lifestyles to children.
How hard is that? That is the primary source of most people's outrage.
Why would anyone issue teachers a firearm? It should be voluntary, the same rules that apply to people with CC permits walking beside you in the grocery store would apply to teachers with CC permits.
The phrase “school issued firearm” has nothing to do with it being voluntary/compulsory. It has to do with ownership of the firearm.
Either way, it has nothing to do with whether arming pedophile groomer/statutory rapist teachers is a suitable solution to the problem, but then you already knew that.
Of course it's not a solution to the problem. The solution is a multi-year, sacred cow killing, feelings hurting process that has nothing to do with additional restrictions on firearms.
Wow, I agree with you for once. Miracles do happen every once in a while.Texas Lt. Governor nailed it when he said that trying to fix the problem when people are upset is a bad move.
Bunch of overly emotional people in here throwing out terrible ideas and then acting like crybabies that not everybody is willing to overlook the fact that their idea is terrible.
I think the issue in Chicago is a cultural one. These kids are raised without a sense of right or wrong, many perpetrators likely come from broken homes where there's no one to teach or impart moral lessons. There's no hope to get ahead and many are mired in a gang family that has no reverence for the human life.
I think there's a distinction of causation between that and some like the crazy ass whackos who shoot up schools, churches and movie theaters.
Here's a fun Chicago story for you, BB85. Gang members involved in a shooting were released without charges. Why? They were deemed "mutual combatants."
Chicago violence: Prosecutors reject charges in deadly gang-related Austin shooting
"But a police report framed the state's attorney's office's decision to decline charges in a different light: "Mutual combatants was cited as the reason for the rejection." Mutual combat is a legal term used to define a fight or struggle that two parties willingly engage in. "
I don’t for a minute believe that there’s an easy solution just laying around out there for people to implement, and I think the reason no real solutions get implemented is essentially the same. People don’t agree about a solution. Also, we lose interest in these stories too quickly, and have made it political suicide for representatives to try to find common ground. You responded to me and I agreed that arming teachers isn't the solution. The solution is always ignored for the reasons I listed.
... but you can't involuntarily institutionalize someone until they have either brought harm, or threatened to bring harm. to themselves or someone else. Unfortunately, a shooting spree is often the first such episode ....Why can’t we all just agree that the idiots that perpetrate these shootings are all nucking futts and the focus needs to be on identifying people who are nucking futts?
