19 students, 3 adults dead in Texas elementary shooting.

From a budgetary standpoint, without infringing on 2A rights while knowing we will NEVER prevent nut jobs from doing nut job things under the status quo, what if we took $10B annually (it wouldn’t even have to be that much, just rounding up and spitballing here) and applied it to funding armed security at all of the almost 99,000 public schools in the country? That’s about $100,000 per school for armed security in what could be my embarrassing public math, so somebody fact check me. The Dept of Education has a $68B annual budget, subtract $5B from their woke agenda curriculum to commit toward armed security, subtract another $5B from other nefarious budgetary items and it’s a wash. I would rather put it toward the protection of these kids instead of overpriced defense contracts that never see the light of day or go grossly over budget, housing illegal immigrants, (insert pet project money drain here), etc. Just a thought. Fire away.

I think that sounds like a great idea. I say vastly decrease the foreign aid to ALL countries and put the vast majority of that money to what you are saying here. I certainly hope the anti 2A people weigh in on this. I would love to hear their opinions on it.

Agreed. Originally started down that road, but knew it would devolve into the whole $40B and Ukraine discussion. We seriously need to pare back our donations to other countries.

Pare back? I say decrease it by at least 95%. There is no reason to keep supporting other countries if the world.

Not sure where I or anyone claimed that.

I will say this. I would love to see some kind of experiment about legalizing all drugs. You know somehow do it on a very small scale for a few years to collect data and analyze the results before just doing it nationwide. Maybe I am wrong and it would be a huge benefit. I still don’t like drugs but if the benefits were to outweigh the dangers, then I would have to support the legalizations.

The difficult part is that we can't just flip a switch and change society. If you want two parent homes with more parental interaction, it's going to have to involve an evolution of the workforce so that both parents don't have to work to support the family financially. It's going to take subdivisions and neighborhood design that includes common recreational spaces in walking distance for its citizens. It's going to take a combination of parents monitoring and entertainers performing material that doesn't glorify sex, violence, and drugs.

Rampant individualism is going to have to minimize itself and we're going to have to start living in community again. Shared values, shared experiences, shared oversight.
That's not true. The wife and I both worked outside the home. The problem is parents don't parent. Many try to relive their childhood through their children through sports or popularity or they let their children do what the heck they want to do. Both my kids were expected to do their school work. We didn't give them phones at 8 years old. When they had phones, they knew that they lost those phones if they didn't take care of their responsibilities. Same with cars. It was positive and negative reinforcement. Both my kids have done well. Daughter graduated from UT with a double major in 3 1/2 years and never made below an A graduating with honors, Haslam school of business. My son graduated last Saturday with his degree in electrical engineering. He did it in 4 years where many take 5.

I'm not saying this to brag (well maybe a little 😊) but to say Both parents can have careers and their kids still excel. It's dedication to making sure your kids meet their full potential.

Foreign aid is just a money laundering scheme by those that approve it.

I stated in another thread, I prefer the Feds not get involved and problems be solved at the local level.

A school of 1000 can have each family donate $400 and raise $400,000. That should purchase a pretty top notch security guard.

Well, even if you did that and even if it worked that only reduces the outcome of school shootings. It won't prevent them. Nor will it prevent the bad guy from simply selecting another target.

Only way to prevent use of a gun by someone like this is to keep guns away from those who might do something like this.

There's kids out there whose family can't afford to give them $30 a week so they can be fed. There's kids whose parents can't fork over $50 so their kid can go on a field trip. Multiple. In every single public school. You think the majority can just willy nilly fork over $400?

How do you do that?

The majority of homes spend more than $400 a year on TV services.

Your example would be the minority of schools, and that is where fundraisers, businesses, donations can kick in.

Stop acting like something is crucial and then bitching because your federal government doesn’t supply it.

It shouldn’t involve the Feds, just like TSA shouldn’t. I can’t speak for other states, but Tennessee could easily afford to enhance school security by

1 Releasing anyone from jail serving time for anything related to rec drugs.
2 Legalizing rec drugs and using the taxes for school security.
3 Legalizing on-site casino gambling and using a portion of the profits for…. Well you get it.

Yea releasing criminals and legalizing drugs is the answer.

It is just the typical mindset. People are pissed about lack of security at schools now. They want someone else to fix it. Stop waiting and do it yourself. The economics of it aren’t that tough.

I agree with #1 and #2. The revenue would be staggering.

#3 would turn Pigeon Forge into the Las Vegas of the Smokies.
