19 students, 3 adults dead in Texas elementary shooting.

I believe that’s an accurate assessment and I’ll agree but it’s more than that . We all had “ the special one in our family , we knew not to mess with them or to give them guns for Christmas . They didn’t stock up on firearms , the family didn’t let it happen . Our culture shifted somewhere . We made things way too easy on our kids , school and life is far and away easier for our kids now than it ever has been but there’s a price to be paid for that shift . With our never let them get hurt or fail safe nets , we have created a society who doesn’t know how to cope with failure. Instead of get up and shake it off , you will be ok or hey sometimes we learn more from failing than winning approach, we kept them from processing the fact that failure and disappoint is as much apart of life as having what you want , and in many ways it’s healthier for you .
You don't get it at all. Reagan released a ton of homeless, of "special to the family," and whatnot and then ...... their caretakers died.

Before that, these "special family" met other "special family" and freaking reproduced because their caretaker family, which owned plenty of guns, was getting older and dying.

Well this isn't Reagan's 40s and 50s where family still lives close and those crazies who still lived in the old home place had Mom and Dad's old house, their guns, and they had kids they're going to raise chaotically.

So you have crazy people raising kids with plenty of weapons nearby........ what could possibly go wrong after Reagan?

Trying to blame Reagan? Stop trying to make excuses for evil. Nobody is to blame.

I get it , I lived through it . I’ve been around , used and owned more firearms than most and still didn’t affect the way I was taught , my outlook on life or how I deal with things . We as a society have gone away from self responsibility, it’s not taught on the wide scale bases that it was taught , we don’t have that mindset of philosophy any longer . That’s not on Reagan , that’s on society .

Who the hell are you talking to? That has nothing to do with the post that you replied to.

I never said that guns were the problem. I was simply responding to another post which appeared to be suggesting that the shooters involved in these random killing sprees had obtained their firearms illegally. That is true in some cases, but clearly not all of them. Stephen Paddock's Mandalay Bay attack being a prime example.

We can’t read peoples minds , no law will prevent what someone might do in the future.

Mental health being deemphasized by society is on Reagan.

He deinstitutionalizationed a whole generation of people to the community who ended up either the original "living in Mom's basement" or homeless generation. Many of these were Vietnam era with various PTSD AND Agent Orange physically challenged veterans.

A number of these folks reproduced without being prepared to raise families and NEVER would've without Reagan having shuttered mental institutions.

We ended up with a generation raised by damaged people who raised another generation and they believed living in Mom's basement was normal.

There are ripples when a nation stops taking care of their mentally ill.

No. But if I were I would gladly put myself between a kid and a gunman. I would do that as a civilian and would’ve as a cop. As a teacher these days, you know going in that the possibility is there that you may die doing this job one day. If I’m a teacher, I’m advocating for the right to protect myself and these kids I swore to protect.

That shouldn't be an issue, but here we are and most people are more concerned about showing off their pro or anti-gun control bona fides.

And republicans wanna arm teachers when the cops are saying "Nah, it's too hot in there, I ain't going in. Have you seen what he's packing?"

Maybe, just maybe, part of the solution is getting guns like this off the market.

I can't wrap my mind around the 40 minute delay.

'Murica, b*tches!

But yet we'll keep on talking about how this is unpreventable, or mental illness, or decay of the nuclear family, or video games, or (Ted Cruz's recent fav) an excess of doors.

That is reminiscent of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida from 2018.

This is what Scot Peterson did during the Parkland school shooting | CNN

You can't just assume that having a cop on school grounds when the shooting starts is going to change anything.

As terrible of tragedy as this is, there is no reason to make up fake quotes. What you posted above was not in the article. There are plenty of issues to discuss about this tragedy without lying about it.

Each rifle costs $2k, this guy purchased 2 of them. It’s a valid question.

While it's not a terribly common case, I definitely had a ton of money saved from summer jobs, part-time after school jobs, and landscaping in nearby neighborhoods by the time I was 17/18.

Cops have no duty to protect anyone. I will put money on a teacher protecting the little kids if given the chance

I don’t know what the hang up is here. I believe you can finance them. I don’t think you have to show up with 4k in hand.
its possible but unlikely. An 18 yr old working at a fast food restaurant being able to finance $2000 not once but twice is a stretch

Maybe shooters would say this if they knew the teachers were armed .
